For any other "smarty-pantses" thinking of hand-delivering AOS

Hello Wonder-Full VJers,

I have been meaning to tell this story.

It was Valentine's Day, and being that I live (temporary insanity) in the burbs of Chi-town I thought I'd courier my AOS package lovingly by my very hands to the USCIS office downtown.

After much difficulty finding the building – it is not the address stated in the I-485 instructions – I pay $10 for parking nearby (a deal for Chicago) and walk in.

Get checked through like it's an airport and proceed to "find the cheese".

Questioned on every floor by a guard, I finally get to the 3rd floor and find the window.

Long story short: one cannot deliver a package to the office directly.

It must be mailed.

They will not take it on any floor.

It was as if I was trying to deliver a bomb.

Lesson learnt.

Went to nearby gigantic post office, mailed it and got free cookies and juice. Ha! :D

Over-all though, I had a great experience with everyone including the guards being cordial and kind. (L)

As a side: If you have never visited this "ancient" city, it has absolutely the coolest architecture and mega stuff to see and do.

:star: :star: :star:

You will do foolish things.

Do them with enthusiasm!!

Don't just do something. Sit there.

K1: Flew to the U.S. of A. – January 9th, 2008 (HELLO CHI-TOWN!!! I'm here.)

Tied the knot (legal ceremony, part one) – January 26th, 2008 (kinda spontaneous)

AOS: Mailed V-Day; received February 15th, 2007 – phew!

I-485 application transferred to CSC – March 12th, 2008

Travel/Work approval notices via email – April 23rd, 2008

Green card/residency card: email notice of approval – August 28th, 2008 yippeeeee!!!

Funny-looking card arrives – September 6th, 2008 :)

Mailed request to remove conditions – July 7, 2010

Landed permanent resident approved – August 23rd, 2010

Second funny looking card arrives – August 31st, 2010

If you went to a nearby post office, you may have delivered to the office where the USCIS has its PO box. I suppose thats the closest you will get to hand delivery.

Thank you.

I aim to please.

Are you serious?

you would think they would prefer this.... errr.... never mind, it's USCIS we're talking about. Case closed.

I asume you mailed it then?

Yes, Lady Heather. Meow!!! Prrrrrr....

Hmmmm...I hadn't considered that.

They were so insistent that it be mailed....said they have been trying to "get that part removed" from their forms (about where to courier).
