Well, it would pay for the gas for our trip to D.C. next month...we'd probably even have some left over for beer!

Hmmmm> I dont care what party, or why. If the government wants to hand out money, I won't be tellin' em no!!

That said, 100 bucks will do squat for the big picture..but every little bit helps I guess. Still not gonna endear me to them or anything. :lol: M.

Yeah, I'm not convinced that a $100 check will do much, and I really do hope and pray that the American public isn't so dumb as to think that getting a $100 check will make everything all right.

Apparently, Ari, they want to give them to everyone.

People may as well just borrow against their kids. That's all those checks are doing anyways. It's not like the government has the funds to distribute. It'll be borrowing the funds. Against the future income paid by our kids. Oh no, wait. Our kids' income has already been spent. As has that of the grandkids that aren't even born yet. But maybe their kids or grandkids will happily pay for our "need" to drive around in gas guzzling SUV's. :thumbs:

How do they decide who gets it?

This sounds like a bad idea to me. Price caps as a function of the price of crude may be a better solution.

They're basing it on income level. The proposal is that $100 be given to those who earn:

1) Less than $125,000/year if you're single;

2) Less than $150,000/year if you're married

I also agree that this is a bad idea. It won't help at all and it will just add to the (still increasing) deficit.

compared to the rising cost of gas... what is $100 gonna do for me? honestly?

I know what it WON'T do... it won't buy my vote!

edit: most of us on VJ fly a lot too... shouldn't we get even more money?

what worries me is what will they try to hide with that $100 refund... if the govt makes a promise to give everyone a check for $100, then folks will be soooooo happy they wont notice that with the same plan they will open up the possibilities of drilling in alaska for oil... hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
