Hi Everyone,

I just received some good news today. My I-130 petition was approved April 25th 2006!! The funny thing is my NOA2 for my I-129F was approved on April 13th. So the dilemma is now which one of these is going to get to the US consulate in Vancouver,BC first. And which one do I go with. The I-129F(non immigrant K-3 visa or the i-130 immigrant visa(CR-1)??

Any thoughts??

For the I-129F it's Vancouver, for the I-130 it's Montreal. :) It seems like it's taking less time to get an interview in Vancouver than it is in Montreal lately.

If I understand it right, you could go to the US using the K3 and then go back to Montreal for the CR-1, or you could enter with the K3 and then adjust status. Or, you could not use the K3 at all and just wait for the CR-1.

Please explain what the I-130 and the I-129 are and how they differ? I thought we only had to file the I-129 for a K-1?

The I-129F might get you in the US faster but the CR-1 has more benefits in the long run.

Both our I-130 and I-129F were also approved, and we're going to try to go forward with both of them at the same time and see which one will get an interview date first.

Does Vancouver do CR-1 interviews as well?

By the way, my husband and I (on separate times) called the Montreal consulate a couple of days ago to ask whether we could do the K-3 first, and then come back and do the CR-1 interview. The operator said "Yes, that's what most people do." So maybe you're not in such a bad position, after all. You can continue pursuing both.

Edit: Oops, the CR-1 question I had was just answered a couple of posts before this.

Tony,

The I-129f will get to the consulate first, and should be there any day now.

The I-130 will not get to the consulate for a few months yet, how soon depending in part on how quickly you respond to the mailings you will get from the NVC.

Up to you to evaluate the tradeoffs that other responders have mentioned as best suits your needs, your desires, and your circumstances.
