NEW YORK - A woman has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison for organizing a green card-marriage scam for hundreds of immigrants in New York City.

Beverly Mozer-Brown was sentenced yesterday for her role in the scam. Federal authorities say she accepted anywhere from $8,000 to $16,000 from people who needed green cards to stay in the U.S.

Authorities say she and her co-workers then prepared documents with fake information and paid American citizens to participate in the phony marriages. The scam netted more than 1 million dollars between 2001 and 2006.

:bonk: Life without parole.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I wonder how she got off so easily. On the forms, it says for visa fraud if you are caufht, you get "no more than 10 years" or charged "no more than $250,000 fine"

I wonder what she would have had to get to do the entire 10 years?

I have also heard of someone also in NY who married maybe 6 ppl for fake marriage and divorced and married again before she was caught. on the forms, you have to check whether you have sponsored someone before. Wouldn't immigration catch up to her after a few times?

And it's ppl who are doing things right that suffer:/

I don't think it raises any red flags -- lots of people get married more than once.

Suffer how? You're not in prison, are you? ;)

Mark, get real.

It is this exact thing that has caused the looooooooooong process in marriage based visas. More so than the fraudster trying to convince some poor USC that he/she is madly in love with them.

Really? It's not because USCIS don't have enough employees to process petitions in a timely fashion?

Seriously Becca, how do fraudulent petitions affect the process for everyone else?

Hasn't the process always been the same for everyone, fraud or no fraud?
