Good Day All!!!

I have a two part question, and here it goes:

Is it possible to pay the medical fee at SLEC in advance?

I was told by a friend that this was possible....

Secondly, my fiancee doesn't have her passport on hand during her medical exam as we are still renewing her old one, is it possible to bring a receipt on the paid renewal or the only way to do this is with the "real" passport?

Thanks to all in advance.

1) You cant pay your medical fee at SLEC in advance.

2) She needs her "real" passport not a renewal receipt coz they will stamp the date of her medical and her PDS number and they'll keep it and send to US embassy together with her medical result.

GOODLUCK!!!

I would call SLEC and ask about the passport issue. Phone: 63(2)5210020 My step-daughter is in the same situation as we applied for her passport and as of yet we are still waiting to receive it. It was due to be released on 2/18/08, but its not there in Davao yet. I called SLEC and asked what to do if the passport will not arrive today as her medical is on Monday. I was told that she could still take the medical as long as she brings her appointment letter and her birth certificate and some valid ID with her birthdate on it. Hopefully this is correct information I was given, but it might be worth a call to SLEC to inquire about your situation.

Just praying our passport will be at the DFA when my mother-in-law goes to follow-up today!!!

Agreed! Has anyone ever read or received a PM about anyone who has "pre-paid" the medical exam because I have not? I also recommend that you follow the mainstream as far as the process is concerned by having your beloved renew the passport ASAP before attempting to take the medical exam. However, please call SLEC directly and let us know what directions you are given. Then post a second PM if you are able to execute any direction that is given outside the normal process.

Cheers!!!

p.s. - Or at least send me a PM so that I can make amendments to the K1 Visa Guide.

I agree. It's much better to follow the mainstream and have your passport in hand when you attend your medical. I was merely passing on what I was told when I called SLEC about our situation because there was a chance we would not have the passport by the date of the medical. It is NOT the normal process to use a birth certificate with your appointment letter to take the medical. That was why I suggested that you call SLEC first and confirm this information. My post was one response from one call to SLEC and should not be taken as a change in practice. You should still make every effort to have a passport in hand when going to the medical. If you find yourself in the UNAVOIDABLE circumstance of not having the passport arrive in time, call SLEC and see what you are told at that time. In our case, we had the choice of believing what we were told when I called about it or skipping the medical and calling the Embassy to reschedule everything including the interview.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to report on whether a birth certificate was successfully used for entry to the medical as my step-daughter's passport arrived at the local DFA office just today. They will fly to Manila this Sunday for her medical on Monday.

Scott

PS.....My mother-in-law said its a holiday on Monday and wanted me to call SLEC again to make sure they were open and the appointment date was correct. I tried to call and no answer. I am assuming the Embassy would know what the holidays are and would not schedule a medical when SLEC would be closed. Does anyone know if this coming Monday, 2/25/08, is a holiday in the Phils that would close SLEC? Thanks.

I tried calling SLEC yesterday, maybe around 1pm Manila Time and all i got was "you are transferred to operator", i will try again to call friday here saturday there and lets see how it goes. I will for sure ask about coming in without passport because im pretty sure i wont get the renewal on time. Do you think i should call DFA to ask about my passport renewas and when it will be ready?

Next question would be, does anybody here have the number to DFA? thanks in advance.

Just an update.....my mother-in-law went to SLEC and found it was closed today, 2/25/08, so she will have to go back tomorrow and try to fight the crowds.

While she was there, she asked the guard if she did not have a passport, would they let her in with proper ID for my step-daughter. The guard said without a passport, they will not let her inside. Soooo.....not sure who has the right information, the guard or the woman on the phone, but I am guessing since the guard holds the key to the gate so to speak....she would not get inside without a passport.

LOL....well I was just reading VJ and found this article.....another post to make things clear as mud about passports and entry into the medical exam. Seems this girl was allowed to take her medical without a passport, but her results were held till she got the passport. Obviously, it's much better to have the passport in hand when attending the medical exam at SLEC, so plan ahead.

Thanks for the update Scott!!!

Just as you said they are closed today, i just called them and i should've read your post first before doing so. I will try again tomorrow to call SLEC and ask if its possible or not and if it is how should they approach the guard.....so far all i know about the passport renewal for my fiancee is that it wont make the medical interview date, will try to find a way to keep the appointment date w/out passport on hand... *sigh* hope this works.
