If you sent US Postal Money Order, you have to go to the post office

and fill out a form to request a copy of the money order cashed, it costs $5

you will receive by mail a notice on that matter, and when MO is cashed it will take some

weeks to receive the scan copy ( Very Bad Copy it wont show case number)

Hi, our lawyer sent in our I-130's on Feb 9th 2008. I live in NY so he sent them to the Vermont center. This was the correct place to send them and not the chicago lockbox right? The package was recieved at the Vermont processing center on Feb12th.

We have not recieved a reciept yet. Can I call them to inquire on out case and see if they will give me some information now? Thanks -Rich

I believe your package will be re-routed to Chicago lockbox for data entry and then re-forwarded to the respective processing center. So you may expect some delay there! Maybe it's about time to have a word with your lawyer for not keeping himself/herself updated!

By the way, you may need to wait for about a month before your check will be cleared and receiving your NOA1. We filed on 18/1 and still waiting for our NOA1.

Good luck.

My lawyer informed me that it was sent to Vermont Sevice center because it was sent FEDEX and must be signed for. Chicago lockbox is a PO Box, no one can sign for it. I am aware it will be forwarded to Chicago then to the correct center.

I had sent money orders not checks, so I am not sure how I will get a reciept number off the back of a money order... any thoughts?

Hi, just FYI for anyone else thinking about sending I-130s by FedEx to the Chicago Lockbox....

It is definitely possible!

The address is:

USCIS

Attn: FBASI

427 S. LaSalle - 3rd Floor

Chicago, IL 60605

It was very hard to locate this address, and I found two different last four digits of the zipcode, so I left that part off. You have to use the "Customer Support Line" for the phone number (pity the poor FedEx delivery person who tries to reach someone that way!).

FedEx said they drop "lots" of things at that address. Mine worked fine, signed for, and I just received my NOA1.

I liked the ability to track the package through FedEx. And I had a copy of the signature, so if it was "lost" I could have proven that I sent it. I think the USPS has a similar mechanism but my office has a FedEx account, so I went with them.

Hope this helps any future filers!

Your lawyer is wrong as our I-130 was signed by someone.

As for your receipt number, you have to wait for your NOA1 which might take from 2 weeks to 1 month.

Good luck!

Do you think I need to get copies of the cashed money orders from my bank to recieve the receipt number?
