Bay Area peeps are hella cool. Sure, some are very involved in their health, but that's better than the alternative.

What I wouldn't do for some Chez Panisse...or perhaps an ice cream sundae at Fentons...or some Zachary's Pizza...or some decent farmer's market food!

And the beers...don't get me started on the beers.

I miss waking up every day in the Berkeley Hills and looking out the window at the Golden Gate.

Santa Barbara is nice too though - I'm a big fan of most places along the PCH.

Well, you're going to get charged the same Federal taxes whichever State you live in. They are Federal Taxes after all.

State income tax, property tax, and sales tax are relatively high in California, however: food prices are cheaper (California grows a lot of nice stuff after all), the weather is better (so you'll be paying less in utilities), and there are a variety of other 'good living' factors that mean for someone like me who enjoys doing outdoors stuff, eating good food, having a great State University system, and living in a progressive state, California rocks.

Here's an interesting thing: If you work for the State department, and you are sent to work overseas (at an embassy eg) and you live in California, you will not be charged State income tax, which is very cool.
