I don't have a picture of the guy's yard but planting a fast-growing tree that can get as tall as 350 feet in a densely populated place like Sunnyvale doesn't strike me as too sensible either

I agree.

I do love trees...but I've also seen gardens and houses affected by being too much in the shade - it can be surprisingly gloomy!

California rocks. Specifically The Bay Area and the San Diego area rock my world. If I could live there right now I would.

This sort of property dispute goes on all over the place. Depends on what the jurisdiction deems a nuisance. Depending on the jurisdiction, you can make 'sunlight' based claims.

There are some pretty cool solar panel tax based incentives in California right now.

Trees trimmed. Neighbours happy. Trees happy. Group hug.

I usually pay for this advice, but I am donating the fee to Greenpeace instead.

Redwoods don't exactly take up much space horizontally, though, it's the vertical extremes to which they climb. I'm not sure if trimming would actually work.

Besides, it'd be a ###### to reach the branches!

Vargas said he first asked Treanor and Bissett to chop down the eight redwoods, which the couple had planted between 1997 and 1999 along the fence separating their yards. Later he asked them to trim the trees to about 15 feet...

The redwoods, which Treanor and Bissett say they planted for privacy, are now between 20 and 40 feet tall.

Block & tackle, strong rope, chainsaw... I'm game. Who's with me?

I'm a lumber jack and I'm ok, I work all night and I sleep all day, I chop down trees, I eat my lunch, I go to the lavatory. On Wednesdays I go shopping and have buttered scones for tea...

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I cut down trees. I skip and jump. I like to press wild flowers. I put on women's clothing, and hang around in bars.

Hey, I used to be a lumberjack (sort of. Landscape gardener. Trimmed a couple of trees in my time, tho) and I can honestly say that very few of my workmates wore women's clothing.

I wish I were a girly, just like my dear Papa.

Oh bollocks.

Can't wait to move out of the Bay Area, I met the craziest people ever here... And I thought my sister and her friends were extreme environmentalists - European environmentalists can learn much more extreme measures from Californians!!! Just check my sister in law: milk, flour and sugar are not allowed in her house, some wacko study claims they cause cancer, so she can't eat it. Also some studies claim that vaccinations cause autism (which just recently has been shown to be extremely unlikely), so she will never vaccinate her 11 months old daughter....

In June we finally move to the Santa Barbara area, it's gonna be less extreme there. I can't here anymore: don't eat this it makes you fat. Maybe you, I still weigh 111 pounds no matter what I eat, so back off!!!! Everybody at work is like that: oh don't eat red meat it is so unhealthy. Ugh don't drink whole milk it is so unhealthy. People, if you read studies, please gain some basic scientific knowledge: they studies read "might", usually just consider one variable which is totally incorrect as many factors influence processes within the human bodies, and usually have a statistical significance way below 95% which is commonly accepted as threshold...

And concerning tax breaks for solar panels: that won't save you from CA's income taxes and sales tax... We nearly buy everything at Amazon because of that sales tax!!!

Counting the days till June 18th..... ;)

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

So, let me get this straight....

Some moron can move in next to you, install solar panels, and THEN complain that your trees block the light to his solar panels AND force you to cut your trees down?

Has California ever heard of Oxygen? How about Erosion? Maybe "Habitat"?

What a bunch of Chopf##ks.
