Not really a pronunciation issue, but I always laugh when I see "cheque."

All you need is a modest house in a modest neighborhood

There was a contest several years ago...when Kraft was looking for a Kraft Dinner King. Some guy, I think from Biggar ,SK or another small town in SK won the contest. He had his picture on the box for a year or something. They also gave him a years worth of Kraft Dinner. A secretary where I worked was at a bar one night, and this guy asked her to dance, she thought he looked familiar. She said he was a real "goof". She said no. He said...what's the matter with you, don't you know I"m the Kraft Dinner King??? Then she realized where she saw him. Anyway, she ended up dancing with him, and said he was still a goof. He told her that he had to write an essay on why he liked Kraft Dinner. Then he said he was really annoyed because their idea of a years supply of KD was a couple of hundred boxes. He stated that wasn't enough since he ate a box a day!

Oh GAWD. I remember having to live on ####### Dinner when I was young and that was all that I could afford. (They had them on sale for 10 cents a box.) It took a long long long long time before I could ever look at another box without getting the heaves. icon8.gif

Pop vs soda is a regional thing. I live in the midwest and here it is pop. Because of the accent here, this is the one region that really really should use soda. Not only because, well, it is soda, but with a strong midwest accent, "pop" sounds more like "pap." Eeeeeuwww!!!!

The Check vs Cheque thing, yeah I always take a double take and figured that only the french people spelled it cheque. Apparently not.

And yes I still say Kraft Dinner though my wife always knew what that was. I do remember once years back at work I mentioned Kraft Dinner and they were like "What the hell are you talking about", after a bit it was followed up by the typical "Oh it's Canadianise for Mac and Cheese". I just always figured you had to make that distinction between Kraft (the only edible kind) and all the others (inedible)...

Im from Sk, and write it as cheque. And I speak nill French!! lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
