Everytime I drive up to the drive through window at a Restaurant in Tennesee it has the potential to turn into a nightmare. I can't understand a word sometimes and begin to panic. Vianca laughs at the way I say "out" or "about" (laughing with me)

I was also made fun of for using the word "Expiry date"

They use expiration date...I've always used Expiry.

That's another one that I've found really odd. Why "expiry?" Something expires and therefore, has an expiration. The date of said act would be the "expiration date." :)

Don't ask me..lol I've always said it. So does everyone else around here..lol

Makes sense to me, the words are interchangeable in that context.

Wow, Laura. I just noticed you have some Tori Amos lyrics. That is one of my all-time favourite songs. I've been to see her in concert a few times. She is absolutely amazing.

The "zed" thing still cracks me up.

When I hear "zed" I think of the boss in Men in Black, whose codename by the way, probably didn't ring a bell with American audiences. In MIB, every agent's codename was a letter (Tommy Lee Jones was "Agent K" for instance) but then we ran across the guy in-charge and his codename was "zed." Most Americans I've run into just thought he had a codename that sounded different because he was the boss. It most likely didn't occur to them (or they just didn't know) that "zed" is how most of the English-speaking world refers to what we in the U.S. call "zee."

When I think of Zed, I think of Zeddy...from Zellers

Last night I was telling Gene about this thread and the "Donna" thing. I was telling him how I had put it in words on the forum. He looked at me kind of strange, and said I had it all mixed up! I guess I don't say "Dough na", I say "Dawn na". HE says ....or so he says "Donna". Now I'm SO confused!! I don't know how to write how he pronounces it. Let's just say it's different. *sigh*

The first time I met Gene's brother and best friends was in the fall of 2003. They asked me if I watched "hackey", and then laughed when I said "hawkey". It's the "a"s and "o"s me thinks!

I called a garbage disposal a garberator the other day and everyone burst out laughing..

it IS a word right?

Garburator was actually the Canadian brand name for garbage disposals and just became the name for the item itself, like Kleenex is for facial tissue. I guess they didn't sell in the US.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

That explains why I had never heard of it. It puzzled me as my parents in Canada call it a garbage disposal too, so figured it had to be either something really localized or it was some name of a company or something.

Just saw this and not sure if it's the same thing or not. Is a Waverunner the same thing as a Seadoo (sp?). I hadn't heard of Seadoo before so maybe that's just a brand name as well...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

That makes sense. Like how any polystyrene product (cheap coffee cups, for instance) are referred to as "Styrofoam." In reality, that's a trademarked name for "polystyrene thermal insulation" manufactured by the Dow Chemical Company.

She gets me by.

I've seen her a few times in concert as well. I have to agree with you!!! Brilliant!!! :)
