Duplicate of I-129F package

So I've been scouring the guides and have found some really great advice (thanks a million to the people - or person - who compiled all that info!).

I notice that, when told to make an exact copy of the I-129F package to eventually send to your fiance abroad, it also includes the check or money order with fees. Not to sound stupid, but does this mean we have to pay the $455 filing fee twice? What exactly is he going to have to do with the duplicate package?

My guess is you just have to copy the check before sending it to the uscis.

Its what we did.

No, you don't have to pay the fee twice. It's recommended in the guides to create an exact duplicate of the package, including duplicating the check. So just copy the check is all. However, you should know that he won't have to have a copy of the package with him. The guides recommend it just as a backup for the beneficiary. You don't have to do it.

If you do make a duplicate copy of the package for your fiance, I'd recommend making another duplicate so that you'll have a copy too. I've referred back to my copy several times, it's handy to have.

It is for his/her to review so he/she is familiar with the petition (and contents) that was filed on their behalf. Uhm..no, you aren't paying the fees again...:thumbs:

Hi there,

What I did was take an EXACT copy of all the documents I sent with the I129f. I have had to often refer back to it so it really is helpful to keep an exact copy. The check itself is also just a copy too. No, you DO NOT pay twice. Send once !!!! copy once!!! hope it helps.

Thank you all so much; this must be a very popular board, answers here are so quick!

I think what I'm going to do is have an exact copy for me in the event that I need it, and just scan everything into the computer and send it to him via email. He's already having to send me copies of his passport stamp and tickets, his photo, and statements through the post; no telling what the postage would end up looking like if we did everything in paper. If all he needs it for is reference purposes, then a scanned-in copy should do, I think.

A scanned copy is definitely adequate. A copy of the packet is not needed for the interview, so I wouldn't go overboard with mailing, etc. Its a recommendation of VJ thats really more of a "nice to have", IMO. The real reason it would ever come into play is in the event that USCIS lost your packet and you had to file all over again.

I'm starting to freak out...

I didn't make any copies of the package...

can't do anything right now...

Don't freak out. The odds of you needing a duplicate package are low. It's easy enough (although time consuming) to re-create your packet if you need to anyway.

What you might want to do, on the odd chance that you will need it, is to have your fiance(e) sign and send to you another set of G-325A forms and 2 passport photos. That way if you need to re-assemble a packet, you don't have to wait on those forms and photos. Everything else you can reproduce locally.
