I am eligible for a Verizon upgrade too. However, I hate non flip phones.

I'm leaning towards the LG VX8700. Or the Samsung Gleam.

I have the LG8700.. absolutely love it.. great. sound.. ultra thin. great MP3 player. classy looking..

might I say only bad thing i have found... erum.. I typically put my phone just inside my bra.. so i can access and hear it better.. well.. bad thing .. the phone is all metal.. stainless steel. ie . cold outside. = cold phone.. burr.. had phone on table during a dinner.. put it inside my bra when i was leaving.. oh my.. what a suprise.. I get comments frequently on woa.. what phone is that.. .. cause it is so thin.. and .. sleek..

Picture ablity with cam rocks..

I just painted my dining room/hall the colors with the cam came out crisp and clear

I am a flip phone user as well.. tried to switch to the new VENUS.. the touchscreen.. slider.. augh.. felt like a kids toy. sound was tinney augh.. (whater on spelling.. ahha..) battery life not as good as expected.. camera had big delay... cant say anything I liked about it.. complained everytime i used it.. figured since all I did was complain since I got it.. I needed to return it.. thus I got the 8700.. have not had a drop call nor.. problem.. ..

Huge thank you! I was checking out the Venus as well - only on the CNET and had some reservations - so thanks for the warning.

The LG VX8700 looks great and glad to read a positive review - my only reservation was the keypad as it looks a lot like Raz keypad - which I don't like... What is your experience with it?

IN comparison to the RAZ.... talking apples and oranges..

the key pad of the 8700.. solid.. easy to press. but not flimsy like the razor.

I am all thumbs and many phones like the ENVY.. and the Venus.. keys were too small for my touch.. when I text message.. I am a one hander texter. using t-9/word predictive text..

I like LG T-9 predictive text compared to the Moto..

MY MAIN GRIPE on ANY PHONE.. is sound.. .. both reception and clarity... The Chocolate.., Venus, Envy ... all take a back seat to the sound / reception to this LG8700.. but . I must say .. nothing compares to the sound./reception to the Moto E815,.. (no longer availab)

Take a look at Howardforum

my primary site to look at all talk on any phone.. or service provider...and best of all.

talk on how to hack the phones and make own ringers etc...

Thanks for further feedback - now it's going to be a "test drive" portion of the process - I will read up some more from the sources provided by fellow VJ-ers and by March 10 I should make my decision....

Just an update - I decided to with the Blackberry Pearl on Verizon - found out that I get some great discounts thru my company and there is a possibility that down the road I will be able to get reimbursed for the data plan - not a bad deal. My phone is arriving on Tuesday 4/1/08 and as you can clearly see I can't wait - announcing it to the VJ world -not that anyone in particulars cares but I am just so excited!!!!

I am hoping for a positive experience - it's to be seen.

Once again thanks for your responses.

D.

thanks for the update. let me know how you like the Pearl. What does the blackberry add to the cost of a phone?

Guess what - I hated it. I think I made the mistake of not sticking to my original plan of forgoing "smart phones" - definitely not for me. I guess I am not smart enough for them. I had the blackberry for about a week before sending it back to Verizon. Don't get me wrong, it's a nicely designed pretty phone but it had just too much 'stuff' for me to deal with. I still remember how confused I felt the first day I had it...nope not for me.

So I am back with my old phone hoping that I will find something down the road that would appeal to me.

Thanks!

Why did you go for a blackberry considering you wanted:

Here is what I'm looking for:

- aesthetic appeal

- durability

- reasonable battery life

- simplicity in design and features

- functionality

Here is what I don't want:

- another flip phone

- so called "Smart phone"

- Motorola brand - bad experience in the past

- I have reservations with the touch screen phones

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

To tell you the truth I have no idea - I guess i really liked how it looked...wrong reason....I know
