Thank you all for some great feedback. I am definitely against a Razor! You all have brought some great ideas that are very helpful. I am still not sure if non-flip phone is for me but I will need to venture out and do some hands on exploration. I do agree that the flip phones a a little more user or rather "mild abuser" friendly and withstand the everyday wear and tear better so it's a tough choice when looking from this perspective.

I have been very happy with Verizon and one thing that bums me that they don't seem to have any phones that work with SIM card - always thought that they are the way to go when it comes to mobile technology - but I guess each carrier decides what works for them and gives them the edge.

I thank you all for your time and comments! VJ rocks!

I am eligible for a Verizon upgrade too. However, I hate non flip phones.

I'm leaning towards the LG VX8700. Or the Samsung Gleam.

I have the LG8700.. absolutely love it.. great. sound.. ultra thin. great MP3 player. classy looking..

might I say only bad thing i have found... erum.. I typically put my phone just inside my bra.. so i can access and hear it better.. well.. bad thing .. the phone is all metal.. stainless steel. ie . cold outside. = cold phone.. burr.. had phone on table during a dinner.. put it inside my bra when i was leaving.. oh my.. what a suprise.. I get comments frequently on woa.. what phone is that.. .. cause it is so thin.. and .. sleek..

Picture ablity with cam rocks..

I just painted my dining room/hall the colors with the cam came out crisp and clear

I am a flip phone user as well.. tried to switch to the new VENUS.. the touchscreen.. slider.. augh.. felt like a kids toy. sound was tinney augh.. (whater on spelling.. ahha..) battery life not as good as expected.. camera had big delay... cant say anything I liked about it.. complained everytime i used it.. figured since all I did was complain since I got it.. I needed to return it.. thus I got the 8700.. have not had a drop call nor.. problem.. ..

I LOOOOOVE my Crackberry Pearl, but I know you don't want one of those. But I will say that the worst thing about it (after having had a flip phone for so long) is that it keeps making calls from inside my purse, like little cries for help to all my friends whose names begin with A or whom I have recently called.

My new phone sucks. Razr. Loathe it so much I am contemplating buying a new one for myself out of pocket. Be glad you have time to contemplate your next phone. I had to pick one in a hurry as my other one was not usable after its tragic demise.

You want a GSM cell phone, then. Verizon Wireless uses CDMA.

CDMA tends to be more popular in the U.S. and Canada, whereas GSM is generally used more throughout Europe and many other places in the world. Both have their good and bad points.

Huge thank you! I was checking out the Venus as well - only on the CNET and had some reservations - so thanks for the warning.

The LG VX8700 looks great and glad to read a positive review - my only reservation was the keypad as it looks a lot like Raz keypad - which I don't like... What is your experience with it?

That is what I am talking about - but I you see I am very open to suggestions and still have some time to decide...

For me the most important thing is that the phone is quadband so I can use it in Europe and just change SIM cards. Lately I became a Sony Ericsson fan and moved from my original SE Z-710 to ATT's SE Walkman thingy - it's a slider but I got used to it and it's very durable.

What I don't get is how all the phone companies add their stuff to the phone - here I have ATT mall to shop for ringtones and it won't let me use the song I uploaded as a ringtone :crying:

Never had such problem with other phones - bought them myself and could do whatever I wanted. Oh well...

I have been using my Nokia 2128i for 2 yrs 2 mths now. It's a phone nobody likes because it doesn't do what everybody wants - play mp3s, take pictures, give directions, download e-mail, etc.

I LOVE it because it doesn't do any of these things and has never let me down when I make and receive calls, which I thought is the whole point of owning a cell phone. And Nokia's menu and texting interface is so easy. The battery life is also excellent. I charged my phone only once a week on the previous battery, which was still in great condition after 2 years of use but I decided to get a new one coz I could. :D

When it was time to renew my contract with Verizon last Oct, I thought I should give other phone brands a shot because I've been a Nokia user for 8 years now. I chose a Samsung flip phone (free of charge) when I renewed the contract. After putting up with it for 2 months, I told my husband I was done. We reactivated the ESN on my Nokia and I am happy once again. :)
