Thanks again for the congratulations from everyone. I just have to ask a quick little question....

My wife and I are planning a trip back to France this summer (if the NW-Delta proposed merger doesn't cancel our reservations...our belated-honeymoon first class reservations), and I was curious how re-entry to the US works with the green card. We're going to be out of the country at least a month to a month and a half. Has anyone been gone for this period of time and been given trouble at the POE when returning? The language the USCIS uses on the "Welcome to the USA" guide can be interpreted many different ways. I realize that any stay longer than 12 months requires a re-entry permit, but is it wise to bring some sort of "Ties to the USA" with us?

Maybe i'm worried over nothing... wouldn't be the first time  What do ya'll think?

And again, my most sincerest thanks for all of the support, guidance and assistance with our AOS process. You guys are the best.

The green-card is a tie to the USA. If maiden name is still in passport, then book airline tickets using name in passport.

We updated her passport before we filed AOS, so we're good there. Thanks for the quick reply.

6 weeks !!! , No problem. You'll be asked at the POE for how long were you gone. Answer truthfully.

If you go over 90 days they may ask as to why were you out so long and that kind of questions just to make sure that you are not a threat.

However I think, if you go out of the country for over 180 days then you need a re-entry permit. Not sure if you are correct about the 1 year period.

No problem with entry in the US with the green card.

Re-entry permit is only required if you will be away for a year or more. If you are away for more than 6 months, it will disrupt the "continuous residence" period. However, if your wife is not considering applying for naturalization, then it will not be an issue.

Wrong! Please do not post inaccurate information. If you are unsure of the info, don't post it :)

They do not ask you questions of why you were gone so long, and you are not considered a threat if you are gone for over 90days. You also do not need a re-entry permit over 180 days. Its after 1 yr that you require one.

Have a great trip - no worries, no problems entering back on the GC. You don't need any other paperwork or ties to prove anything. GC trumps everything.
