Folks, GURUs

folks esp junta who have gone through Indian Consular processing for their spouses recently or are in the NVC process, can you please guide me?

I'm visiting my spouse this weekend and am not sure if there is any potential progress with my case, right now its nothing but pending case.

if it were to be approved and I have to go thru NVC,

am i required to submit originals associated with my spouse:

1. Birth certificate

2. Marriage certificate

3. Police clearance

4. Passport Photocopies

etc

IF someone can guide me to the NVC process NOT THE FLOWCHART but list of documents required around DS230 for Indian consulates, it would be a great big help.

thanks

M

Hi,

From what I gathered from other VJ members whose beneficiary is from India, we are now required to submit following original documents (or certified copies by issuing authority) with DS-230:

All civil documents (Birth, Marriage, Death, police clearance, Regional Passport Office clearance, etc.) be sent to NVC. Check out http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3190.html

Starting 2008, NVC now makes the visa appointment for Indian consulates and many other consulates around the world and then they send the file to consulate.

Starting Feb 2008, another requirement of photographs for DS-230 has been added to the list, although it is not in the above link. For the photos, you need to send 2 color pics with applicant's name and NVC Case # written on the back of the photos.

I hope this helps. This is pretty much what I learned from Sanjiv patel and other VJers. Good Luck!!!

Jigi, NVC processing has changed and now they require original documents or certified documents from "issuing authorithy". When you had your case processed it was standard processing. Now for India its appointment processing.

Mohgli You can get your spouse's original documents like birth certificate (translation if its not in English), marriage certificate, passport size pictures with white background. When you case number gets assigned in NVC after your I130 approval. You could ask your spouse to police clearance certificates from regional passport office and also from her local police commisioners office.

When you submit your DS-230 form, you have to submit above original documents. You could also complete DS-230 form and have your spouse sign part I.

Hope this helps, if you have any specific questions - please lets know.

thanks a bunch

has anyone done this recently? How do you assure that the original documents are returned back to you? This is kinda scary to send originals to these guys. anyway it can be circumvented by certified copies?

Can I get it notarized by the Indian Legal Notary ?

It's a hassle to get duplicates reissued incase they loose the documents. But if the new paradigm is to send originals i guess there is no way around it unless someone out there can share their experiences?

please post your findings and recent experiences. I can get the documents required during my present trip to India.

hi,

When i say certified photocopies they have to be notarised in Local Indian court... and you to put stamps on it ... and get the stamp of NOTARY on it. In USA... there are many companies and laywers, courts who offer notary services.

MGK>>>> there have been instances when people have lost originals with the NVC, which is more problematic..... since you would face problems with the CO. I know notarised copies work....... Personal view.. Each one to his own
