To reiterate its the "abstinence only" part that people are objecting to - rather than simply "abstinence".

He only spent 1/3 of the money on abstinence programs, so it's not "abstinence only."

Two thirds of that money -- $10 billion!!! -- financed other programs.

Its a lot of money to spend exclusively on that, given its poor potential for success, and the amount of criticism the abstinence provision has received from sexual health groups (not least the World Health Organization) - specifically that it sends mixed and conflicting messages. As I say - there's nothing wrong with abstinence - but it is being given undue prominence via PEPFAR.

Here he's done all this good....MORE than any other Prez...and yet, he's being bashed for promoting a method which will absolutely not infect a person with AIDS in the sexually transmitted way.

Stating the fact that abstinence only programs do not work and have not worked isn't bashing. It's called telling the truth.

There isn't one. But I don't think you understand what is actually involved in the promotion of these abstinence programs.

Why would you not want people to be provided with all the information to make their own choice?
