Mulatto is one of many terms to describe black + white. There is also quadroon, octaroon, etc. to note the percentage of black ancestory.

I have also heard the terms "high yella" and "redbone" to describe mixed race people. A "high yella" is a light skined person of African decent and a "redbone" is a person of African decent that has redish hair and/or freckles.

Are these terms offensive? They are only if you are offended. If you aren't offended...they aren't offensive. ;)
