OH man, I'm so tempted to try this.....but since it's only been three months, I think I should wait. I'm starting to feel the frustration though of watching many people now who filed after my fiance start zinging through with approvals. BUT, I know there are others who have been waiting since May so I better suck it up. When would be a good time to try calling? Should I wait till 4 months?.....or longer?.......is it necessary to wait for 6 months before trying? I sure could use a little info just for some relief, but I don't want to abuse the system.

Actually any call to the service center where you give them your receipt number will result in a touch, and often 2 consecutive touches. It is unfortunately not an indicator of progress.

You are welcome to include the "do I feel..?" criteria if you like. It's probably a better indicator than touches. :)

Interesting -- I was told by one Immigration Officer (earlier in my process, before I came to use The Approach) that calls may or may not result in a touch. (Not all of my calls did, which is probably why I asked.) If I remember the explanation, it's because the workers on the floor would either spend all of their time updating the computer, or because the computer would crash if every processor recorded every touch every time. So, who knows? Perhaps we can most accurately say that "touches may or may not be an indicator of progress."

On the bright side, if we define "progress" as "we have just learned that someone there actually knows where to find our file, thus allaying our concern that it's been lost or shelved," then that's progress, si man! :)

It's great to be noble, but in the end, we have all paid hefty fees for government service. You are calling to inquire about that service. If you know for a fact that more than a few files have been approved that were submitted after yours, I say go for it once now. Then, wait a month.

I would say, though, that no one who has applied ANY MORE RECENTLY than 3 months ago should really try this.

These are my opinions only. The noble Mox may differ! :) Seriously, why not call now? Just review Mox's list of questions to see which ones truly apply to you and which you should ask.

hmmm im not sure my answers will help with the experiment......but ok here goes.....

after answering all the prompts and putting in the numbers for the prompts i waited about three or four minutes then a lady answered i asked why did the message tell me that.........she asked what we had applied for i said it was for i said finance visa......she asked my name........his name.......and my birthdate.......then started the dribble about is received and pending and at this time we are processing aug.....i said mmm but i know for a fact there are others that have been approved that applied well after i did as in oct. and nov...........she then started reading somethings on the computer stopped talking all of a sudden........silence then stated i am going to send a email to see why this is taking ssooooooooo long.......give me ur phone number and i will call u.....by the way happy birthday of fri and repeated my phone number back to me and i said thank you so many times to her and she said bye........

that late evening i got a touch and the next morning i found another touch............hope this helps with the experment but i can tell u for sure i feel pretty good now it made me feel a whole lot better maybe because she was really nice.....or the fact that i don't feel i sat and did nothing and just kept wondering what was going on..........i dont think she will return my call but stranger things in life have happened so maybe?

Here's how I believe it works, based on my own experience and talking with some other VJ members: If you get through to the service center and they enter your case number into their computer to check status, it will result in a touch. Sometimes 2 touches, although I have zero idea as to why it would generate a second touch. If, however, you don't get through to a service center but are instead routed to whatever they call the customer service that isn't tied to a specific service center, then a touch is not generated. So the confusion lies, I believe, in some filers calling and not understanding that they can either be talking to the service center or the central customer service. But I can almost guarantee that if you get through to the service center and give them your case number, you'll be touched at least once.

Please write to Mox (above) with the answer to those questions that he posed.

Oh and please don't PM reports to me personally, just post them in this thread where all can see. :)

I tried the tips and got some info. I filed for 1-129F in August and hadn't heard anything...called yesterday and they said my case had not been assigned to an officer yet??????????? That kinda pissed me off but I was very polite to the lady on the phone. After I got off the phone I checked my case status and it there was a touch on my case and again another touch today Feb 21st!!! I hope this is a good sign?? Any thoughts????

Alright....heres what happened.

1: Call 800-375-5283, then hit 1,2,2,4,2,1; enter your receipt number; hit 1,1.

2: Speak with an immigration officer.

3: Ask the immigration officer "Why does the recording say I have a Request for Evidence?"

4: Immigration officer says there is no request for evidence.

5: Thank the immigration officer.

6: Ask the immigration officer "Will you please tell me exactly where in the Division my file is?"

Stated my case had not been assigned to an officer yet....ended there

Got one touch on the day I called and another touch on the day after.

Now I keep waiting.......

Hope this helps.

3 weeks ago, they told me it was on an officer's desk.

2 weeks ago, they told me it was on an officer's desk.

2 days ago i called and they said an officer hadn't been assigned and that it was at the supervisor's desk.

so they lied, or fired the original officer (which i doubt)

what scumsuckers!

my only advice to people is to call when you see other people getting approved "ahead" of you

Okay, curiosity got the better of me, so I decided to try "the method." Report follows:

1: Call 800-375-5283, then hit 1,2,2,4,2,1; enter your receipt number; hit 1,1.

Check.

2: Speak with an immigration officer.

3: Ask the immigration officer "Why does the recording say I have a Request for Evidence?"

4: Immigration officer says there is no request for evidence.

5: Thank the immigration officer.

Check, check, check, check. Officer gently teased me for calling twice in 3 days, and then said she was the one that talked to me before. VERY nice lady!

6: Ask the immigration officer "Will you please tell me exactly where in the Division my file is?"

Placed me on hold for close to 5 minutes, came back and told me I was approved. At this point I stop collecting data to keep myself from falling through the ceiling.

Apologies for not being a valid data point, but I think you'll understand.
