I don't believe TB really cares whether people use the information in an 'appropriate' manner. This thread would have died a natural death more than a week ago if he were not continually resurrecting it. He is more interested in not admitting that his 'method' is improper.

I've been there, done that when it comes to waiting and I know the exasperations. I don't believe we can expect people to come to a rational conclusion about the 'right time' to use this 'method'.

I still cannot get the image out of my mind of someone with an RFE not being able to get through. I don't think TBone cares about that.

Geezuz Rebecca you just can't help yourself. If that isn't clearly a blatant personal attack on Tbone I don't know what is. How and the heck can you be the judge of what TBones motives are or even worse just make accusations of another members character. I'll quote Again from VJ Terms of Service.

Make comments in a Post either direct or implied toward another member that are purposely designed to upset, antagonize, make fun of, belittle, or otherwise instigate an argument that takes away from the personal enjoyment of the Service by other users.

I especially love this quote of yours " I don't believe we can expect people to come to a rational conclusion about the 'right time' to use this 'method'." So in other words Rebecca you believe VJ members are just too stupid to come to their own decision how to use this information, so we might as well just censor it. I think there are still some countries in the world who go by this philosophy with their citizens. Communism or Facism take your pick. Heck some might even be taking immigrant applications

Hoosier -

As you say it's a free country. I'm allowed to think what I want to think about TBone's motives. He's made it clear what he thinks of mine. As have you.

As for 'rational' - when people get upset, they aren't rational. There were many times I was not rational when it cames to my husband's case. It's not a judgment call. It's an observation of human nature.

PS- I'm in the chat room if you'd rather discuss this there.

I went in from the home page where it had a link for chat, it sent me to a lobby with only me in it, did I go to the right place ? I could not find any other rooms.

[...] There are many other reasons why there could be problems and often identifying the reason earlier than later can reduce further delays.

Although I never stated it so concisely or elegantly, this was a large part of my rationale -- perhaps the center of it -- for passing along the method in the first place. My own file was sitting untouched at a transit station for some time, and who knows for how much longer had I not called?

Captain, when you call your contacts, I'm probably not the only who hopes that you will convey the reality that the front-line screeners and the Case Status Online updates are insufficient sources of information most of the time. In fact, a great many threads on VJ are devoted to discussions of exactly such frustrations.

Were I not a member of VJ, I know beyond doubt that after a very short time of having filed, I would have been calling USCIS daily -- by any means and method -- in apoplectic anger at the unexplained delays and callous stonewalling. My faith in other VJ members is such that an insignificant number would "abuse" the method suggested herein, and that any in doubt would write to the forum for advice first, as several have already. I'm surely not the only one here who believes this and believes in the intelligence and sense of responsibility of most VJ members.

I also hope that this thread will not be deleted, because there are some very insightful, thought-provoking posts that deal not just with USCIS, but also with general customer-service and other procedures that can serve VJ members in other areas of their professional and personal lives. More than a few very thoughtful and articulate posters have contributed here.

Thank you for considering these thoughts.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

No reason to touch this thread :). I think we all just are looking for the best and most human way to deal with the immigration process! Sometimes nerves get frayed and that is unfortunately just part of the journey.

On a side note I updated the graphs with a little more info to help people track things:

k1vschistory.gif

The best way for people to get a good estimate of their approval date is to use the timeline system. Once they enter their NOA (and other) dates the system will generate an estimated adjudication date based on other member timelines with the same filing details. While this is not perfect it is much better than guessing and even the USCIS processing page :P.

Example: http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/profile.php?id=39076

Yeah yours is definately past due. I had to check the math twice and then realized what was up :P. The USCIS definately gives themselves a huge buffer room.. They state Aug 19th (roughly) as where that have processed up to. On average they are way past that and maybe there are only a few petitions from that date unprocessed. We should file a FOIA to see what they are really up to!

When weighing in on all the debate in this thread I would like to say that using this method is only appropriate when you are far enough along in the process and when others that have similar timelines to you are being approved. I think once you do see others being approved before you that have filed after you it becomes a source of frustration. Once you reach this point, it is good to get a piece of mind by calling. If you are reasonable with the CSC rep, you might find out what the status is of your case. As for me, it did give me a piece of mind and within 4 days of my call I was approved. I do think that my approval would have happened anyways at that time but at least my fear of waiting another 100 days was gone after my call. So my advice which may mean nothing to anyone is that you should only use T-Bones method when others within your on timeline are being approved in earnest :) And for those have been waiting for 1 or 2 months, your time is coming, it will happan and for those that are waiting longer than 5 months my heart goes out to you and may you receive good news soon.

September 8th - 15th 2007 - met in person in Vladivostok
