(Apologies for encroaching on Mox) To the immigration people, "expedite" is for Cuban applications, emergency asylum applications, military applications, and (only for the very few) TRULY emergent personal circumstances (life-or-death matters, if even those!). Mox may have a more complete explanation.

TBone, you mentioned military applications as far as expediting applications. I am a military member, does that mean I should have done something different, or maybe that it would benefit me to call now even though I am a possible month or two out from my NOA2.

BTW long time reader/first time poster......This is a wonderful site and community

From my understanding of the military expedite is not for simply being military it's more for cases where you going to be deployed overseas and you can be expedited to avoid conflicts with the deployment.

You are correct. Unless you're being deployed overseas or *to* sea, or some other related hardship, you don't qualify for the expedite.

Thx Mox and Hoosier, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing some other opportunity.

Thx, Mox & Hoosier, for answering, si man. K-n-K: Good question, though!

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

Except for the inevitable wait, D., this is positive. Imagine someone connected with CSC being friendly & helpful!

Contrary to popular opinion, immigration officers and adjudicators are not two-headed beasts who drool at their desks all day long, playing solitaire at the computer between coffee breaks and trips to the lounge for donuts.

These are people with jobs to do just like you or I. They are under an incredible work load. Many of them care deeply about the cases they see. Many are also patriots and consider their jobs to be a duty they do for love of country.

Criticize the agency if you like for short-sightedness in underestimating the number of petitions that would come in before the July 07 rate increase. Criticize the mandate of President Bush that ALL visa applicants be security-cleared, rather than the pre-September 11, 2001 policy of spotchecks. Blame IMBRA. Blame the John Walsh act. Whatever makes you feel better.

In the meantime, these 'driveling idiots' are the ones who approve your petitions. How many of you would crack under the pressure of their jobs?

Though it was derogatory, it was still warranted. In one's daily job excuses are worthless, you either complete your job in an appropriate manner or you don't.
