Our honeymoon was in Mazatlan, Sinaloa and it was ok if you want to keep it low-key and just be close to the beach.

I would have rather gone to some place in Oaxaca or the Yucatan area in general.

Cities I have been to-Guadalajara is nice, Morelia is cool but not as nice as Guadalajara, of course his little city in Michoacan, and a little into Guanajuato but not much to see there. If I had to go back I would pick Guadalajara or Mexico City.

Depends where you want to go in Mexico. When my husband and I went to Mexico for a wedding we stayed in Ensenada at Las Rosas Hotel. It was amazing. Very good value too! We had a huge room with patio doors that we kept open all night to listen to the sea - the hotel is literally right on the beach.

Do you want super huge resorts or small cozy places? Isolated or bustling? That would certainly determine my recommendations!

I have heard some negative things about the Mayan...most notably that there's huge pressure from time share salesman...also it's a bit isolated and sometimes difficult to get off resort to explore. But if you and your honey want to stay at the resort and just enjoy each other, that might not be a problem. ;)

Most are quick to dismiss Cancun as overly-Americanized and icky, and it definitely has those aspects to it...but it's got another fascinating and wonderful side, mainly due to the fact that it's the only place in the whole country where you can find people from all over Mexico. You can find both individual pockets of regional culture and instances where those cultures meet. Plus, tons of Argentines live there (yummy steak) and Cubans (kickin' music).

Not that this is what you're looking for on your honeymoon, but I just had to stand up for the place! If it weren't for Cancun, the family I married into would be lacking things that we take for granted, namely a livelihood and way to put food in their kids' mouths!
