Tips for quieting a crying baby

Sometime the baby is fed and diaper is dry, but the baby still cries. What have you found that works?

I found that bringing the baby next to the kitchen sink and running the cold water works, but this could drive up your water bill! I saw that one on YouTube!

We also have one of those bears that makes "white noise" and our little guy likes that too.

my little cousin likes it when you take him outside and walk around. he stops crying instantly!

Yes, I noticed that Bubba will go into "quiet mode" as soon as the cold outside air hits him, even on a 50 degree day. he likes riding in the car too, usually.

Interpreting a baby's cry is really the key. Is it a fussy cry, an angry cry? From what I remember, a cry can mean so many things - the baby wants to be held, wants to be carried around, baby could be teething, has air in their tummy or some other discomfort, is tired, is scared, wants attention. I'm sure there's a reason - just a matter of finding out that reason. :) Good luck.

when my little ones got over stimulated thats what the home care nurse for new moms called it, she noticed our sound system. She said when ever a baby gets over stimulated and gets really cranky to turn up the music and its works wounders well i thought she was crazy but i will tell you it worked like a charm on all 4 of my kids they all had their favorite music i think it was linked to what was played alot while i was pregnent. Anyways the nurse told me that babies have the wounderful ability to tune out sounds so if things got loud they can shut it off then go to sleep. Well it worked why i dont know maybe she was on to something but it sure saved my sanity.

What about being pushed around in a stroller? Some babies really love that. :)

My little guy really likes riding in a stroller (I think it's the motion) but music doesn't seem to do anything for him.

He likes being rocked too.

Funny story. My wife often falls asleep with one hand on the babies rocker so she can rock him to sleep. Last night my wife was sleeping with her arm on my shoulder. When I woke a couple of times and moved a little, she would push my shoulder like she was rocking the cradle. It was hilarious!

How old is he now? Could he be cutting his first teeth?

The hoover always worked for me. Run it around and you can clean, whilst drowning out the baby's cry! :P

 And when that didn't work, I'd turn up the stereo too!

Gary, babies LOVE to be bundled up snugly (like you see in the hospital). It makes them feel they are back in the confines of the womb and quiets them.

Only 2 months so no teeth yet. We have a lot of things we do that work, but I'm always looking for more and better ideas. My wife has this idea that she always has to quiet him when he cries. Sometimes he just needs to unwind and go to sleep so I leave him alone for a while and he's out!
