Welcome mixxerr0se, Andie and Jamie and Jamie to the NZ thread :D I'm not sure which part of the journey you are on with the K1 but i know how nerve wracking the whole process can be for sure! I went through the K1 process in 2008 and got approved in early 2009. I don't know if any of the policies have changed much since then but some of the embassies differ from others... The embassy in Auckland seemed to be more concerned with how much the beneficiary had in funds to be able to support themselves when they arrived in USA, more so then what the petitioner earned on the 1-134 form ( i think its called 1-134 lol!)

Before the interview at the embassy, the beneficiary (person marrying the US citizen) has to get a medical done.. Quite a few of us who lived in Auckland went to see Dr Stone in Remuera (he charged a reasonable fee and was really nice and made you feel at ease) The embassy gives you a list of doctors that you can choose from and see (i think) so not sure if Dr Stone still does it or not.. Anyway, i wrote of my experience of the medical (page 54 of this thread).. I have copied and pasted it here............... thought it may help a little :)

4th December, 2008

I went to the medical today in Remuera. I left two hours before my appointment as i live an hours drive from there and don't know Remuera at all. I passed the main shopping area and parked in Ascot Ave (turned right at the lights) where there were plenty of parking. I walked around abit getting my bearings, then found the docs place (next door was Remuera Pharmacy).

I went in there and gave receptionist my name etc. she handed me some forms and pen and told me to fill them out. As i sat there, she said to me.. you do know you are early? I said yes and started to look over the forms. The first one was just general stuff weight, height, any operations?, medications taken, occupation, smoker? etc. I then looked at other forms she gave me and it was asking q's about canada. i told the lady and she was like .oops! i gave you the wrong ones.. Then she said, do you have your own forms? I said yes. so she said to just fill out the first one that she gave me.

Shortly afterwards the doc called me in.. He is a very nice person. Makes you feel at ease. He took my forms from me (that the embassy sent to me) and said.. oh? you have to fill the top part in yourself. I felt a bit silly about that as i didn't know. But he was like.. it's ok,no worries etc.

He filled out the parts of forms that he had to do, all the while just talking casually to me. he asked me where i would live in the USA. The he asked me if i had had months, chicken pox and measles.. i had.. he then told me what he was going to do next.. so i had to take my top off and he gave me a cover to hold up against me and then he checked my breathing and on my back too with stethoscope. He checked blood pressure. He then got out his little hammer.. hehe and checked my reflexes on my knees. My leg went SHOOTING up in the air.. Made me giggle. He said, that's good you have great reflexes.

He told me that i seemed to be in good health. We then sat back down again and he picked up the vaccination sheet. I asked him about the TB test and he said at this stage, all that he does now is satisfactory for later on (AOS). He then looked at the vaccination work sheet and said to me.. where did you get this from?? I said the embassy sent it to me.. He said really?? I said yes. He said, well they have sent you the wrong form. He said this is an old one. So he went to reception desk and found the right one and filled it out. They photocopied it and gave me a copy. I was then given a tetanus shot and he handed me a form for blood tests and instructions on where to go for xrays and blood tests. And was told to bring the xrays back to the doctors when i had finished.

As it was a nice day, i thought i would do what russell did and walk to the radiology place!!(101 Remuera Rd) Half way there i was thinking that maybe it wasn't such a good idea. It took me around 20-25 mins to walk it (russell is probably more fitter and definitely much younger than i smile.gif ) I got to the radiology place and there were like 8 people waiting. I told the woman at desk why i was there. she took my money and forms and passport and told me to wait.

Looking around the waiting room i was thinking.. wow! this is going to take AGES. I was just about to get up and ask the lady at desk if i could have my passport back so i could get blood tests done while waiting, when a lady called my name. I went straight in to a small room. took my top and bra off. put on this white top and then had the xray done. she asked if i was going to wait for xray and i told her that i would go and get blood tests while waiting.. I asked her for my passport and the form that they each have to sign and took off to the laboratory which was just around the corner at 12 St marks Road.

The lab is right next to a womans clinic. They were really FAST in there. Now on the instructions from embassy they say to pay in cash which i had done for docs and xrays.. so i layed out the money on the counter and the lady said to me.. do you have eftpos? I said yes of course. she said ahh good as we don't accept cash here at all. They signed my form. I was in and out of the lab in like 4 mins!! no kidding! it was soo fast. They told me the results would be sent to Dr Stone. I walked back to xray place and the xrays were ready. I noticed that the radiologist who had signed the form hadn't dated it, so got the lady at desk to do it. I looked at my watch and it was 2.25pm, so i tried to put my feet into turbo. I was walking so fast my jandals were burning rubber!!! wink.gif By the time i got to docs (2.55) i had blisters on the underneath of my feet!! i was hobbling.

Inside the xray sleeve there was the form from embassy that the doc had written on and 2 letters from the radiologist saying that my xrays were normal etc. The receptionist took the two letters and form and gave me back the xrays. I said to her do i have to have one of the letters? and she said no..(I'm not sure how one is going to walk onto a plane holding those xrays! they are huge!! I had got instructions previously from google maps on how to get home and they were WRONG. so i had to stop and ask a lady at a chemist how to get onto the motorway. So all in all a very eventful day. At docs. It cost $125 for the medical and $50 for tetanus. The xray cost $80 and the blood test cost $31. Total of $286!!

I had to phone in sick today at work, so i could go. Not sure what they will think when i hobble into work tomorrow with a sunburnt face biggrin.gif

cdneh: you could phone Dr Stone and ask them if they supply forms. I gather they do as the receptionist handed me forms to fill in even though they were for Canada. Just to add too that on the information i had to fill in. it said A#? i didn't know what it meant so i left it blank, so hope that was ok. As i don't know what my case number is from nvc as the embassy never quoted any number to me at all when they sent out packet 3.

Hi Mixx, Cdneh and Kiwiana and again to Jamie & Jamie. Cdneh and Kiwiana, I've read a lot of your posts and the process seems so long that we certainly didn't need the snags we have already come across to slow us down. Not just visa related but those little gems that life throws in just to keep you occupied. Hopefully we are getting around them and our second attempt at a petition will be on its way before too long.

Mar 2011 - After 5mths denied for lost docs - Attempts to follow up failed. Mar 18 2012 - I-129F sent - No sign of NOA1 but they have banked the check...Jul 24 - Update - USCIS has located our file
Infopass Apt - they sorted through everything - our 2011 and 2012 file keep getting mixed up - getting us a Case# (still waiting) Dec- Infopass Appt- expecting to get a case # in about a week ..Still no Case number

Mar 2013 Infopass - advised file was in a box somewhere, and it would be quicker for us to refile. Life gets in the way... New petition submitted July 2014 .

Oh my...lol..I remember that post Kiwiana :P

It seems that ROC doesn't get any easier either lol! I have never called USCIS before but today i phoned them to put in a service request for 1-751... It has been 8 months now since i filed at CSC.. Two months past the standard "processing time"

Phoning them is a nightmare... press 1, 2 3 or 4??? not knowing which one to press and then when i did press a number, it went onto another "press 1, 2 or 3" choice... aaargh!! Then it wouldn't accept my receipt number i was putting in.. or the biometrics receipt number..

After a couple more attempts i finally got through to a LIVE person.. He wasn't the happiest sounding either.. I asked him to be put to a level 2 person and he didnt seem to appreciate that and wanted to know what my query was.. I finally managed to get him to put in a service request for me... So i have to now wait 15 days and if i don't hear anything by then, i have to phone them again...:(

Wow..that's a long time to wait! I hope we don't get to the stage where we need to call them. We had enough calling when we were stuck at NVC. Man every night for weeks. And now you have to wait another 15 days? :(

I had my second set of biometrics done a month after the first set were rejected. I am not sure if having heard nothing back is good news or not. They were pretty quick the first time to send a second letter, but this time not a peep. Either they were happy with them this time, or they will RFE us for police clearances. Still, I can't help but feel every day without ICE mail is a good day :P

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

I know.. You had a terrible time going through K1/NVC.. I really really hope your fingerprints were captured ok the second time around.. (not hearing from them since you had them done may be a good sign (for once :-)

Wow Kiwiana, that post about your medical experiences is so detailed and useful, thank you so much! I think I will save that somewhere for future reference haha (: Probably going to Wellington for mine though but maybe I should just go to Auckland since I know it a bit better and you said your doctors etc were all nice. Not that I know Remuera at all either, hmm. Also, is there much waiting time for booking those medicals? Like on the letter I got I am still up to sending in the first lot of forms but won't be much longer (the DS-230, DS-156, DS-156k, police cert form, passport pics / photocopies etc etc), will be done with them all and send them in in a day or two - do you have to wait for some sort of letter or confirmation of them being received before you book the medical, or would it be wise to get in and do that now?

Also this bit: "The embassy in Auckland seemed to be more concerned with how much the beneficiary had in funds to be able to support themselves when they arrived in USA, more so then what the petitioner earned on the 1-134 form ( i think its called 1-134 lol!)"

scares me a bit. While combined my fiance and I have plenty of funds to support me, most of them (well, all to be honest) are his as I'm unemployed atm. In the "SECOND" part of things to do / send in on my letter it says the form I-134 obviously but also "proof of your own funds, bank account, CV/Resume" - for that part he will probably just send me money. But in the interview etc will they question me on that do you think/mean? He earns / has put away plenty to support me/us so that is no problem - but if they ask where the funds in my own account are from and I say they are from him, are you saying that that may reflect badly on me?

Sorry for all the questions and it getting so long haha, it just seems like everything you posted was quite relevant to me / where I am at now / soon. Wow, it appears I like slashes >.>

hmmm that's kind of difficult to answer. on the one hand, it proves your relationship is genuine if your fiance is willing to financially support you (and i think technically he is obligated to, once you are in the US on your visa), but on the other hand, the US doesn't want any "burdens on society", so they want to know that you are employable and self-sufficient. if i was in your position i would prepare by:

1. showing proof your fiance has sent you funds to support you while you look for work

2. show that you are actively looking for work (be prepared to talk about recent jobs you have applied for)

3. provide a really REALLY good resume that shows you are highly employable

just sent off the second package of documents for our condition-removal, after receiving and RFE - i think we came up with 25 pieces of supporting evidence! fingers crossed it all goes smoothly and i get my damn GC soon.

What rubyred suggested is a great idea!! Take in your resume/CV to the interview for sure..

Looking back at my dates.. It seems that i managed to book/go to a medical two days after i received packet 3 from the embassy. So i didn't have to wait long at all.. I guess it all depends on which Dr you see and how busy they are.

Will you be going to the embassy in Auckland for the interview? I know how confusing and stressful it all is.. I was so glad that i had the support and help of fellow VJers here.. Don't hesitate to ask us all any questions at all.. We will try our best to help if we can... :star:

The thing is though, I'm NOT actively looking for work right now, I have two main disorders that make it quite hard. I worked a part time job etc all through school, worked constantly for about 3 1/2 years after leaving school, often minimums of 80 hour weeks, then took about 6 months off when it all got a bit hard, then got a temp job that were happy to keep me on for longer than they said, but I gave my end date as when I thought I would go to the States (the first time, to meet my now-fiance for the first time) but everything took longer than I planned so was also unemployed for about another 5ish months after that (no point looking for anything as kept thinking I would be leaving very soon but it kept taking longer than I thought haha), then 3 months in the US, and haven't been working since either and it has been almost a year since I got back. During any of these times though I have only been on any sort of benefit for about 6 weeks, and most of this time was without my current fiance in my life (or anyone who is willing to support me) so I should hope that would prove to some extent that I will not become a "burden on society" if even without the support of fiance (for most of that time) I never took any benefits etc. I think I am ready to get into work again once in the US, maybe just part time or even volunteer if need be. But yes, all the time off makes my CV etc quite patchy so that won't work in my favour. But surely it will be enough that I have next to never relied 'on the system' before and that fiance is willing and able to support me? He is so amazing and says that as long as I am happy he doesn't care if I never work again, either if I can't or simply don't want to, as long as I am using my mind in some way (as he appreciates it and constantly tells me so, it makes me feel so amazing), as long as I keep seeing beauty the way I do, etc etc.He is so amazing to me and he just wants me to be happy and no matter what he will support me - emotionally and financially, and there are no issues at all re. that. I mean I do want to work and WILL look once settled in the US(and you know, eventually want to study too), sorry for the semi life story here haha but I just feel like I need to justify myself and my choices, even though I shouldn't. But yeah moral of the story - I don't look overly employable. I don't have funds put away that aren't his. I know I will be able to get 'something', I always do, but it doesn't look that great with all the on/offs. I am hoping the fact that I have his full support (both with 'proof' with the I-134 and stories of what he has said / done so far etc) will be enough considering this isn't a work-based or anything visa, it is relationship based. That said though I suppose they have to also take into consideration if something were to happen like if he got sick or something and couldn't work to support us etc so I understand that. I don't know, I'm rambling, I'm so sorry. It's just so nice to have a place to get all the thoughts and worries out that are swirling in the back of my mind re. this whole long process (: Thank you for listening, even if you don't have any actual advice I just appreciate being able to type all this out haha.

Oh and yes I will be going to the Auckland embassy for my interview Kiwiana. I thought that was the only one you could go to for interview actually but maybe I got the wrong end of the stick there, but even if there are options yes, that is still where I will go (: Just to confirm, what is 'Packet 3'? Is that what I'm working on right now, the letter-thing they sent me when they received the approved petition that lists the first lot of forms etc to send in, and then the second section that you send things in with and prepare all your evidence etc and then sign and send in for an interview date? Haha I thought I was so on to it and organised and I do kind of know the process in my head, but I don't understand the whole package 'x' thing and nothing I have ever received seems to have directly said about that on it? So I don't need any kind of confirmation etc that the first lot of forms etc (DS-230, DS-156/156k, police check etc) got through before booking the medical, as far as you know? It seems that this 'first' section is more to get processing on the way rather than a set order type thing, so I think I will go ahead and try and book it (the medical) pretty soon just in case there IS a wait - and if there isn't I will just book it in the future a bit to make sure things are done first etc. No downsides to doing that? Also, I haven't even looked on here for any info regarding this yet so don't get mad haha I'm sure it's here somewhere but this just popped into my head - what on earth do I even ask for when booking? A full medical including 'x, y, etc' for the K1 visa? I suppose they must get a lot of people through for it since there aren't many options of places to get it done so they must kind of be used to people asking for it I guess.

And thank you so much for making me feel at home / saying to ask anything - I sureeeee am haha. I overthink so damn much that I will probably be asking things every two seconds, sooo sorry. When I am all done with this I will come back and answer other people's questions who are as ####### as I am and think to ask them too, promise :P
