Tax Return Clarification

When I filed my tax (married filing jointly), I included W7 with my spouse's signature along with a certified copy of her passport in front of my state and in front of my federal income tax return. Send each package to the usual filing addresses for state and federal returns.

If I am not mistaken, any return that has a W-7 attached needs to be sent to a special address .. NOT the regular filing address

You are perfectly correct. W-7 with federal tax return should be sent to the IRS's ITIN Operation. I just called IRS to confirm it.

When I sent my tax return, I used the envelop provided by my CPA. I'm probably the first case with W-7 doing tax with that CPA. From the conversation IRS advised me against sending another return with W-7 to ITIN Operation as they would forward my W-7 to the correct department when processing the tax return (6-8 weeks). Now I just need to call back in 2-3 weeks to monitor when my return will be on the system.
