Do we need certified copy of marriage certifiate to apply for AOS? They said it takes up to 6 weeks.

Do we need certified copy of marriage certifiate to apply for AOS? They said it takes up to 6 weeks.

Obviously the AOS is based on marriage - they would like to see the official document that shows you are indeed married.

In many states the marriage license 'becomes' the marriage certificate once it is stamped/sealed by the county clerk (or similar governing office). If you hand carry this license (signed by an authorized person; judge, clerical, etc) to the clerk's office, they can often certify it directly and give it back. Otherwise I believe the answer is 'yes' they want an official certification of your marriage.

thanks for reply. we got married yesterday and got a original certifiacate on the same day. They said it takes upto 6 weeks to get a certified copy. So i am confused which one should i need to apply for AOS. pls help me.

It is the certified copy they want. I sent a copy of the original license in and then filed the certified copy. I would not recommend this as it creates RFEs. Just wait for the certified copy. Most States have an expedite fee to speed the process up from 6 weeks tp 2 weeks. Good luck Payato
