Hi, I came back from my interview in Juarez and I wanted to give you some tips:

Medical Exam:

there are two clinics, but the one next to the consulate has fewer people. I did not have to be in line all morning. I arrived at 7:45 am and there were only two people in front of me in line. So if you arrive late still try to get this done as soon as possible so that there are no delays in your appointment.

They will take the vaccines from Mexico, so if you do not want to pay a lot for vaccines, go to an IMSS clinic or other free clinics and get the vaccines there. For people age 20-45? aprox (I don't remember exactly) they had to have the varicella, MMR and Measles. I had 2 in mexico and they only gave me Varicella vaccine.

Pictures:

If you take your pictures close to the consulate, they will try to overcharge you. They were asking for $15 dlls for 2 pictures, but you can tell them that you will pay less (I paid $70 pesos).

If you take your pictures in these places, they will tell you that they will check your docs for free, but be careful, they will tell you that you are missing docs and try to get you to pay for something you do not need. If you are not sure how to put your docs together, use the juarez website. They give you all the info.

Docs reviewed:

Some people, when they arrived with enough time, will get a pre appointment to have their docs reviewed at the consulate. Usually the appointment is at 7:30am. Most people (including me) get there very early and end up having to wait for 4 or 5 hours. (they will not let the people for doc reviewed until all the people with regular appointments are in (arount 10am). So take your time and you can be there around 8:30. There are no lines, as soon as they are ready the guard will yell for the people there with appointments to check the docs and all the people run to get in line.

After they check your docs, you have to wait to have your fingerprints taken and then they give you a blue slip to come back the next day for your interview. It does not help to be there extra early because it doesn't matter who was there early, they call based on the day before. ( I was there at 4am and had to waint until 10am when I was called for an interview).

If you have any more questions let me know.

1) Your process is the same process as K1 visa?

2) So it is a 3 day thing? I thought it was medical one day and interview the next?

i think and i hope its different. k1 is open appt and cr- i believe is given an appt. i was kinda worried too when i read her post since i read that she came and then got a blue slip to come back the next day after having her documents recieved.

The original OP is talking about a K3, a spousal visa. This means they are already married. So it is a little different, K3 have to wait for an appointment.

For K1 it is an open appointment in Juarez. You can go when you receive your packet from Juarez.

When my husband (then fiance) went he did plan a 3 day trip though: 1 day for medical, 1 day for visa interview, and an extra day (just in case it was needed). He didn't need that extra day, but we thought it would be better just in case that day was needed. It was no big deal, he just stayed in his hotel for that extra day.

The process should be only 2 days, but we were there for an extra day just in case something went wrong. It was a good thing because my husband was sent to the psychologist and the results of the medical exam took longer. They were ready the next day at 10:00 am. Sometimes it is better to have an extra day just in case any documents are needed or if the exam takes longer than usual.

Not everybody is sent to review their documents. Sometimes they decide that so they can have some work in advance and it is easier for them. Some people go through this process the same day as their regular interview.

Mine was not an open appointment.

Any questions let me know.

alicia_tij, from your profile it says that your application was for a CR-1 visa, no?

roughly what was the length of time that it took from sending in your initial I-130 to your interview?

hello, im a mexican fiance (i'm a girl) and I haven't get my vaccines since I was 11 years old!! do I have to show at the medical examination in Ciudad Juarez, my vaccine's register...cause I don't have any! so if I go to IMSS they'll know which ones I need and will they give me some kind of document to prove I got my vaccines? will this work out fine for the medical examination?

My fiancee just did the medical exam last week and she said for the K1 visa you dont need any proof of vaccinations. All you need to bring for the K1 medical exam is your appointment letter, passport, and of course like 1700 pesos. The vaccines are for the K3 and CR1 visas.

It's been recommended by visajourney people that you get the vaccines done in Mexico so that when it's time to adjust your status, you already have them done and don't have to pay $200+ here in the USA to get them. I think 6 months is the latest date you can have them done.

Yes, that's correct, it could save you big bucks. Even though vaccinations are NOT required for K3 and K1 visas interviews in Juarez, once the person is in the United States and tries to adjust status, they must have all vaccinations. MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Varicella, and tetanus. These vaccinations are free in Mexico, if you just go to El Centro de Salud. That way when you come to the US, you just visit a Civil Surgeon and have those vaccines transcribed to form I-693A (supplement). I just called the Civil surgeon in my area and he charges $25 to get them transcribed. This form is needed by K1 and K3's who are adjusting status in the US.

So the medical is 135, but will that include all the vaccinations or are there some additional vaccinations that cost extra?

The medical does not include vaccinations, so just the medical is $135. The vaccinations are at an additional cost. Since you are going for a K-1, she does not need vaccinations. She will need them in the US, when she adjust status. You should recommend her to get them in Mexico.

Measles-Sarampeon

Mumps-Paperas

Rubella-Rubeola

Varicella (chicken pox)- Viruela

Tetanus-Tetano

And also, you should ask her to see if she has her childhood vaccinations (card), she probably already got them. But if she didn't just have her get them and she will get a brand new vaccination card, then she can bring it to the US. Just like I explained in my previous post.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. We are here to help.

Question about the vaccinations in Mexico- do you think it's a better bet for my fiance to get them done in Mexico, or to wait until he's here? I've read about some cases where the US doesn't recognize the vaccinations done in Mexico? Or would he just have to make sure he got the proper papers from the doctor who gave him the vaccinations? What kind of documentation would he need if he got them in Mexico so that they would count in the US? I hope this makes sense...

Thanks,

Caity

Let me give you my opinion regarding the vaccines. I was one of the members from the beginning of the Juarez thread (way back in the days it seems) when there were a lot of us going through the CDJ consulate. If I remember correctly, about all of us had our fiance's get their vaccines done in the US. I am not 100% sure, but I believe we all had our fiance's get shots until in the US. I just remember that we used to say we were worried about the vaccines not being recognized in the US if they were done in Juarez.

I remember having those same questions you did. But then I decided to have Juan get his vaccines done in the US. For the medical, you pay about $135, WITHOUT VACCINES. For the vaccines, you will be charged extra and I have no idea what the price is per vaccine. The vaccines are age-specific, but most likely your fiance will need the MMR, tetanus, and varicela. I just didn't want to risk having Juan get his vaccines done in Juarez and having to pay and then coming to the US and realizing that he needs to get them done once again (because they weren't accepted) and then having to pay once again. I simply told him to wait for vaccines until in the US. We paid about $215 to get them done by a CS here in the US. I have heard about others (not from the Juarez thread) about going to community clinics and getting some of the shots free (or at a reduced price) and then getting the info transcribed by a CS for their AOS.

I also remember though that Juan called me when he was inside the medical in Juarez waiting to be called in. He called me on the phone to ask if he needed to get his vaccines done there. I guess he heard everyone talking about which shots they needed and someone told him that he needed shots in order to be given the visa. This was wrong advice because K1 visas are not required to get vaccines until AOS stage. I'm not sure if shots are required for K3 visas though.

Anyway, just decide on the best route for you guys. You can maybe try going back to the beginning of the Juarez thread and reading all of our reviews of the Juarez interviews. Maybe you may find someone who got them done in Juarez (I really don't remember anyone right now though). If you do find someone, you can maybe PM them and then ask if the vaccines were okay for AOS and what documentation they received etc.
