Clinton Campaign: Super Delegates Will Decide Nomination

Harold Ickes, a top aide to former President Clinton now in charge of delegate counting for Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign, insisted today that neither Clinton nor Sen. Barack Obama can secure the Democratic nomination with just pledged delegates, the ones elected by voters through state primaries and caucuses.

...

Ickes called it a "mathematical impossibility" to win without super delegates.

"This nomination process is long from over," Ickes said, predicting that after Puerto Rico votes June 7, the two will be "neck and neck."

...

Ickes made it clear that Clinton will fight this out by every means necessary.

...

Democratic divisions show signs of sharpening and have every potential to get nasty, as top elected officials and party operatives start to choose sides. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi jumped in yesterday, saying ... that the big Florida and Michigan delegations should not be seated.

...

Ickes said Clinton's plan is to "hold her own" in Wisconsin Tuesday, and go on to take Ohio and Texas. The campaign has been slow to wake up to the cumulative delegate power of small states, and the dangers of letting Obama amass giant 68 percent margins as he did in Washington and Nebraska last weekend. These magnify his delegate advantage.

...

Response from Obama campaign manager David Plouffe: "The Clinton campaign just said they have two options for trying to win the nomination -- attempting to have superdelegates overturn the will of the Democratic voters or change the rules they agreed to at the eleventh hour in order to seat non-existent delegates from Florida and Michigan. The Clinton campaign should focus on winning pledged delegates as a result of elections."

I think I have been foretelling this. The convention this time will be a fun thing to watch. No matter how it turns out some faction will feel disenfranchised.

There was never a doubt that the Clintons won't take the vote of the people seriously if it is against them.

The Clintons feel entitled to the power. They can't understand how anyone would dare challenge that.

What exactly is wrong with Hilary continuing her campaign at this point? I don't get the rationale and I am also curious as to how she would be viewed by all and sundry if she suddenly gave up her campaign when the popular margin is so small. The argument seems to be that because she hasn't won a landslide nomination as per the poll predictions early on in the race, that this somehow means she has lost credibility.

Personally, I admire that she is committed to her campaign and her supporters. To give up would be rather pathetic at this point.

*caveat- I don't support either Clinton or Obama*

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I think it's ironic, but certainly in character that a party that wants more government, professes to know what the people want, and need from cradle to grave, have rules in place that ensure that the ordinary little people don't err by voting for the wrong person.....in their opinion of course!

In that event, the "super delegates" will decide because the ordinary folks need help in making such an important decision!

That's what Liberals do.......
