Hi everyone,

Upon arriving into the states for the first time, does my fiance need to fly into a certain airport? I live in Orlando, FL. Can he fly straight here, or does he have to go through New York? It may seem like a crazy question to some, but really I have no idea. Also, he would like to go ahead and look for a ticket (our visa is approved and we are waiting for the packet to get to him), but should we wait till he gets an interview date?

Thank you all,

Anna

Finally after 4 years apart, we can be together. ^^

Yes, he can fly directly into Orlando. He doesn't need to go through NY. Wait for the interview date and approval before booking the ticket. You have no idea how long it will take.

Absolutely agree with that!

Your fiance can start to book his ticket after inteview while waiting for his passport with visa back (I don't know how it'll be for him, but I had to wait almost a week for it).

I keep hearing something about if your fiance goes through JFK airport coming in, then he can get his passport stamped and be able to automatically work (on a temporary basis).

Might wanna check into this.

Summer 2001 - met my Scottish boy

December 18th, 2007 - proposal in Madrid's Botanical Gardens with a duck standing behind him going 'food?'

January 18th, 2008 - I-129F sent to VSC

January 31st, 2008 - received NOA1, issued Jan. 24 :)

February 24th, 2008 - NOA2; omgwtfbbqlolz

February 29th, 2008 - NVC letter sent

Only reason to use JFK is you MAY get a temp EAD stamp, virtualy all other POE have discontinued issuing EAD stamp, and JFK may also at any time.

The stamp is not required to get SSN.

K-1 is "Work Auth" primarily to be able to get the SSN, some states are strict in their interpretation of a federal law that requires persons applying for a "license" to have SSN, this can cause a problem with marriage license if only one person has SSN and the other (the K-1 holder) does not.

I am sooo excited that your petition is approved!! Now the only thing left if the interview. I too would recommend waiting until you are sure he will be able to travel at a specific date before getting the ticket, there are too many variables.

As far as his point of entry, he can come in anywhere. It is true that if he wants to be able to work before you guys get married, adjust status and receive the work authorization he can try going through JFK. He might get a 90 day Work Authorization there (then again he might not, it is not always automatic). Even if he does get the 90 day work authorization it will expire the same day the K-1 does. Yu and Dan's info is correct rearding actually working with this auth.

Keep us posted on how things go for you guys!

Besos,

Sam

I don't believe there are any non-stop flights from Lima to Orlando. Flights to Orlando from Lima stop in either Miami, Atlanta, Houston or LA. I suggest you meet your fiance in Miami or Atlanta and either drive home or assist them with making the transfer of baggage. This avoids the "too much luggage for a domestic flight" scenario.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous

My future wife flew in to Houston in 1988 when it was a very small international entry point(not so today). I guess they had seen K-1's before as she came out with everyone else. She brought her cat(I did not know about the cat in advance). Unfortunately the cat got mauled to death by some dogs that got loose a few years later.

Spirit Airlines started flying from Ft. Laurderdale to Peru. They have lots of great prices and promos. Go to the site and join the $9.00 club and you will get email with promos. Sometime the flights are low as 9.00 each way. Dont know how they do it but they do. Then its just a short drive from Orlando to pick her up or get a round trip ticket, you can spend a few days at the beach with her.
