Congrats. Costco rocks. I haven't had DirectTV in years, but when I had it, it was great. I guess this means we won't be seeing too many of your long, wordy posts anymore. :P

You can only hope. ;) I'll make time. Just for you.

Anyone that's ever dealt with customer service at a cable company (comcast) knows why!

Ehh... I have Comcast and you are right. Customer Service is horrible and misinformative. I had to talk to 4 different "technical specialists" in order to configure my router, modem and PS3. (so i could get Call of Duty 4 online, it's awesome BTW)

I am on the phone with Comcast right now. We are moving in 2 weeks and SBC cannot give me any faster than 750K DSL. So I am stuck with the cable for internet. In their defense I had insight (now Comcast) for 2 years and they were fine. I hope that it is that way still. I am sticking with my DishNetwork for TV though. Many more HD channels.

Well, I have a $100 credit for my direct TV for no install yet. (google Ironwood communications and see the complaints about install issues)

install window 0800 to 1200

1205 I call DT

1210 DT says installer says the install will happen at 1230 on the computer (news to me)

1235 Ironwood (installer) calls and says the tech is behind sched and will be at my house from 1330 to 1430

I ask "why didn't anyone call?" no good answer. tech was busy.

1351 now and still no tech. I'll let you know what happens.

Gary. Direct TV has more HD than Dish.

I know that Direct TV has a few more HD channels. But I am an old DishNetwork customer and I can get service month to month without a contract so I stuck with them.

I've had DTV for about 5 years now. Had cable before that. I would never go back to cable, that's for sure! Anyone that's ever dealt with customer service at a cable company (comcast) knows why!

I've rarely ever lost signal (DTV) in the past 5 years, and when I do it's never been longer than about 5 minutes.

A word of caution though. If it snows where you are It might be a good idea to place the dish where you can clean the snow off. This isn't a problem except in the worst of snowstorms, and usually has to be wet snow, but it does happen.

My dish is located not too far from my BR window and I can clean it off with a broomstick. I've only had to do this 3 times in 5 years but it's something to think about.

I heard this from co-workers too. We don't get too much snow (or rain) in SE Washington state thankfully.

I have heard of spraying the dish with PAM, silicone, or WD-40 to help move the snow along. Maybe I'll wax it.

 waxing your dish....that sounds pervy.

we have directv here. i had to trim branches off of a tree it is under, apparently branches not even in the direct los affect the signal. it's all good now, just gotta keep an eye on it when it's windy as i may have to trim more branches over the years as the tree grows.

Grrrrr

He made it to my house at 1430 for the 0800 to 1200 window.

The permission form I had (because I'm renting) was from the direct TV website but Ironwood wouldn't take it. They said I had to use their form. They wouldn't install. The thing is that I can't get 'their' form until the tech showed up. So I got the house owner to sign the new form and I'm getting the install on Tuesday. The tech was an a$$ and I called him an idiot on his way out. I told direct TV I don't want the same guy coming to my house on Tuesday.

Here's the permission form they wouldn't take.

Switch to DishNetwork. They installed in my rented apartment on the weight of a verbal OK over the phone from my landlord. I have had dish off and on for 10 years now. I am very happy with them.

Yep, I once had this conversation with a Comcast rep after I lost TV, but still had my internet (same cable), and this happened immediately after I saw a Comcast truck in the parking lot.

Me- I lost my cable tv but I still have internet....

cust serv- we'll have to make an appointment for a service rep to check it out in the morning

Me- I have to be here

cust serv- yes, the problem could be in your home

Me- but I have internet over the cable, and funny thing is I lost cable tv right after seeing your truck in the parking lot!

cust serv- we'll schedule you between 8 and 12....

Me- did you not hear me? I have cable service. How could the problem possibly be in my home?

cust serv- sorry sir but the tech will have to test from inside your home

Me- there's nothing inside my home but the internet modem connected to a splitter

cust serv- sorry sir but you need to be there.......

Idjits! Turns out that the guy disconnected the service to the wrong unit.....They put a trap on the cable.

Direct is trouble free and I've never had to call customer service in the 5 years I've had other than for activation!

Wow, I had Comcast for many years without any problems and thought their customer service was amazing! I wanted to get them again when I moved, but the cable doesn't run to this house, so I got Dish. I've had no problems with the signal, even in bad storms, and the HD quality is supurb.
