My name got flagged at my K1 interview yesterday. Someone with the same name as me has had trouble at the US port of entry or something and they have sent my application to Washington for additional processing. They gave my passport back and said they would call when they hear back from Washington.

Is this going to take weeks? months? years??

I am so stressed that this will be stuck in administration.. I can't believe this happened.. I am really low :(

Any advice or consolation?

Thankyou..

Tom

I am so sorry to hear that. Keep your chin up and everything is going to be alright. Hopefully it will not take long. Wishing the best for you (F)(F)

Thanks  I hope this is sorted out promptly.. its just without any way of checking, you are stuck in limbo and all plans come to a halt. Its a real spanner in the works. I was just wondering if anyone had had a similar experience?

I believe that you have passed your interview. The reason they are looking more into that is just that they are being extra careful right now, because of September 11th. It's affecting you, it's affecting us all.

I also believe that they understand that this process takes long enough for us and they will do your name check very quickly. It doesn't take that long for FBI to do a background check on a civil person.

Do not worry!

Our thoughts are with you! I soooo believe it will not take long. I give it a week.

Yes, as far as i know I passed the interview. Once the background check is done and everything is ok, I am supposed to arrange for the courier to pick up my passport and take it to the embassy, and then they will courier the visa and passport back to me. The consular officer told me she had to get it checked and that she didn't want to lose her job by being careless. What pissed me off is that she told me to "go home and relax".. yeah right! :P

I seem to remember the ConOff saying it will take a few weeks.. and that she usually tells people 6 weeks... but you still get instances where these things get stuck in admin, and there's no way to check on it. Thats my fear..

Have either of you gotten your security clearance yet?

My fiance interviewed in Dakar on April 29th. At the end of the interview the officer said "we are happy to issue your visa today," took his passport, and handed us a receipt to come pick it up the following week. As we were getting into a taxi the guard called us back into the embassy. The officer said I'm very sorry, I tried to put this through and it came back and said it needs additional processing. She said typically this takes months so you should just go about your lives.

Go about our lives? I couldn't believe it. She could not tell me what "additional processing" meant. The next day I went back and politely and insistantly asked for some more detail. We talked to a different man that said "I can't give you a lot of information about our process but I can tell you your fiance has a very common name." I said so you need to do a background check? He shook his head yes.

The embassy said if you have not heard from us in 60 days then send us an email. It's been 4 weeks. I know of two other people this has happened to. One of them was in 2006 and after the interview it took six months for his clearance to come through. The other was just this past December and it took three months for his clearance.

I'm wondering if anyboby else has had this experience recently? If you have hopefully you didn't make it out to a taxi. That was heartbreaking...

I am sorry to hear about your interview. At least you have some idea why they are checking. My husband was told on May 17 2007 that they were checking the validity of our marriage. I submitted the additional documents they told him they wanted within a week to the US Consulate to Lagos Nigeria. They still say it is in "processing" when I call. No one has an answer. My senators have tried and get the same. Now we are praying submitting the I-130 to combine with the I-129F is what they want. They stated it is beneficial. I just feel like this is all a game and they think they have something on my husband. It is a cruel game to all of us in love and wanting to be with our s/o. Let me know how it goes for you please.
