The best way to deal with California (horrible traffic, flakey people, etc) is for a very large earthquake to come along and turn Nevada into ocean-front property.

Naw - flyover states would be lost without California to bash? Who would they blame for America's problems without "Hollywood" and "San Francisco"? They would also miss our tax dollars more.

actually, the only drawback is the porn industry would disappear too :P

What have those flyover states contributed to lately? Corn? Wheat? Certainly not much. And they're certainly nothing to look at. ;)

On behalf of Cali - we thank you for your wheat. What else is there?

Principal crops grown in Kansas are wheat, sorghum (milo), hay, and corn. Approximately 10 million bushels of wheat are harvested each year in Kansas. Reno, Sumner, and Thomas counties lead the state in wheat production. At least 90% of the land area in Kansas (47 million acres) is devoted to agriculture production. Kansas ranks first in the number of commercial cattle processed with 8.03 million head (1999). Buffalo have made a comeback in Kansas with more than 6,000 head raised on ranches and refuges.

I ride a commuter van to work. Am I the greenest on VJ?

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

LOL... the odd thing is...I end up driving in the right lanes during heavy traffic because those lanes actually move forward more. It defies logic why anyone would purposely drive in the farthest left lane and go slow, especially the clueless ones that stay in that lane even when they've got a train of cars behind them waiting to pass.

steve - it COMPLETELY defies logic yet people do it. I've noticed it's particularly bad in CA but it happens elsewhere in the country.

Whenever I have driven in Canada I am always amazed by the lane discipline

I know in Arizona, when driving on the interstate between Phx and Flagstaff - where there are signs EVERYWHERE that say, 'Slower Traffic Keep Right', there are still a number of 'reading challenged'. :P ...and the speed limit is 75...they're going just over 60.

 I just found this...

Slow drivers in the fast lane should be prevented from breeding.

I’m only partially kidding about the title, but seriously, what is with people in California! Specifically those people who do 60-65 in the fast lane with miles of clear road ahead. I think it’s the most inconsiderate thing in the world of driving. Imagine if you will the freeway has a decent amount of morning traffic doing a modest 65-75 from the slow lane of the fast. You’re in the fast line jamming on some tunes with a nice little space in front of. Then all of a sudden the passing lane cars start passing you as you slow down to keep your nice safety cushion of space. The reason of course is some person camping out in the fast lane doing 64 and 1/2. Passing lane cars begin to blow by this proverbial lame duck over taking the empty void he has accumulated ahead. You’re about three or four cars back from this slow roller and its starting to grate on you.

You question “Why doesn’t he just get out of the fast lane? I mean he can’t be blind and the guy behind him is tailgating him to the extreme.” You turn on your right turn blinker to get out of this mess but are stuck by the passing lane cars and all the people behind you who are doing the same thing you want to do. Single handedly this slow driver has created a dangerous situation.

Not only is he below the speed of traffic. Which some of you will say “But 65 IS the speed of traffic” and you would be right in a legal sense. However we all know California highways are filled with very illegal speed racer drivers. He is also stated at least to me that he doesn’t have to be a courteous driver. I mean I fully admit I drive fast, much faster then the posted limit at times. The difference is I will get out of the way if I’m going slow or speed up to meet the traffic. I’ll also let people get in my lane most time.

I’ll take a quote from Dennis Prager on this one: “Those who drive slowly in the fast line should face the death penalty.” Of course he is joking, but it is a seriously annoying thing to deal with.
