hello all =)

I had a question on copies to submit with i-130 and 1-485 for my wife. on the uscis site it says they will take copies now on most things. i know certain things have to be origionals, like the applications, the medical exam, so fourth. but as far as birth certificates, marriage licenses, and so fourth. are plain old copies allowed? or do they need to be the copies from the state with the seal and all? i know in any case we need the "embosed" origional copies shoudl they ask for them later. but i wanted to know if i can just send in photocopies for now.

Never ever EVER send in the originals!!!!!

Photocopy birth certificates, passport pages, divorce certificates, etc. and keep the originals.

The actual I-130 and any other official documents from the USCIS with your signature should be the original and not a copy.

Best of luck to you :)

I sent in the original Marriage certificate with AOS. It was actually convenient, because at interview, she (IO) had the original already in front of her, no need to go over and ask for me to provide. But in my state originals only cost like $3 per copy so I got a couple of them, knowing we'd need them throughout this immigration process.

We sent copies of everything but the marriage certificate, for which we purchased 2 originals - one to send with our AOS package and the other to keep for ourselves and our own records. I would NOT suggest sending your original birth certificate! We just sent in photocopies of my main passport pages, birth certificate, etc. And I was approved for EAD and AP so far.

Our marriage certificate was the only thing we sent in that was a certified copy, and we bought that for $4 from the city clerk. everything else was and should be photocopies. Never ever send in originals of your birth certificate, passport or any evidence. All that should be taken with you to your interview (if you have one). Good luck!
