I gave Mags her gifts on the 13th. Good thing, since my back went completely out that night and I've been hobbling around with a cane ever since. Plus, Jordan is sick. So Mags isn't really feeling the VD happiness. lol Sick kid, bed-ridden husband, and a busy night at work made for a very tired Mags yesterday.

Haha does anyone ever have any happiness from VD??? Sorry couldn't resist!

When I was single, the day sucked. When I had a girlfriend or with my fiancee now it still sucked. However, it is one of those situations where if you feel it is commercialized, stupid, phony, etc., then no one forces you to participate.

I think a simple "Happy Valentine's Day," and a kiss should be fine. Going out to a nice dinner or doing something romantic out of the blue or in place of facing the crowds on the actual day is nice as well.

Also it totally depends on your partner. I've known people who expected a big song and dance on every single possible occasion - Valentine's, XMas, Cinco de Mayo, Birthday, St. Patrick's day, first day of spring, etc., etc.

I think this is what bothers me the most about it. Not that single people are looking for my pity, but it kind of seems like a "neener neener" type thing. I guess the same could be said for other holidays - Mothers' Day might be a difficult day for women who would like to, but can not get pregnant, for example.

I agree that this holiday is overdone. Too many advertisements crammed down our throats. Its no longer a sweet holiday. Its almost like a threat. Though, I dont think we'd hate this day so much if we were physically with our loved ones. I have a feeling my view of this holiday will change next year.

22 Jun 05 - We met in a tiny bar in Williamsburg, Va. (spent all summer together)

27 May 06 - Sasha comes back for a 2nd glorious summer (spent 8 months apart)

01 Jan 07 - Jason travels to Moscow for 2 weeks with Sasha

27 May 07 - Jason again travels to Moscow for 2 weeks of perfection

14 July 07 - I-129F and all related documents sent to VSC

16 July 07 - I-129F delivered to VSC and signed for by P. Novak

20 July 07 - NOA1 issued / receipt number assigned

27 Sep 07 - Jason travels to Moscow to be with Sasha for 2 weeks

28 Nov 07 - NOA2 issued...TOUCHED!...then...APPROVED!!!

01 Dec 07 - NVC receives/assigns case #

04 Dec 07 - NVC sends case to U.S. Embassy Moscow

26 Dec 07 - Jason visits Sasha in Russia for the 4th and final time of 2007 :)

Yep. Getting just one of those things out of the blue is 10x more impressive because it really means you are thinking of her - just because.

On Valentine's day society has trained us to believe we are supposed to act in a certain way, which is annoying.

How does someone from outside a couple's relationship place value on the gifts given within that relationship? If Nessa enjoyed it....GREAT! If Charles enjoyed giving the gifts... GREAT!

I don't think it should matter to anyone else when gifties come. People always say that gifts are more meaningful when NOT given on Valentine's Day and I think pish-posh...how does anyone else know when, where, how many, for what reason hubster and I exchange gifites. Just because we choose to have a special day on Valentine's Day doesn't take away any of the meaning behind it. We had a fabulous time together last night, we weren't at an over-crowded, over-priced restaurant. In fact I asked hubster if we were suckers for going out last night and he put it this way....we had to eat dinner, we wanted to try out the restaurant, we didn't pay any more than we would on any other night of the week and it was just plain lovely....great food & atmosphere...fantastic company. His thought was that if we paid more for something just because it was Valentine's Day, THEN we'd be suckers.

Valentines is a cheesy holiday but I have always enjoyed it. It never mattered if I was single or in a relationship- Valentines was just about being with anyone you loved- family, friends or lovers.

When I was a kid I always loved giving out Valentines to my classmates.

My dad always went out on Feb 15th and bought stuff when it was 50% off. He does that for Easter too.
