NO  they are a requirement for the consulate to issue the visa, this has to go with determining if the foreign citizen is inadmissible on medical grounds. Also for CR-1/IR-1 visas the vaccinations need to be done before visa can be issued.

They need to be done by the designated medical facility used by the consulate.

Then how do people doing adjustments of status here in the US get them? I know there are people that get them here for the same purpose.

I find a simple NO hard to believe.

They go to a US Civil surgeon, K-Visas have the medical done over seas, and only a vaccination supplement done in the USA if overseas medical is less than a year old. People adjusting status from a visa other than K need full medical done by a US C.S.

Lastly, the medical for us in China was FAR less expensive that what a CS would charge here.

So you concur that the medicals are done in the US for people adjusting from other than K visas. So in theory if these medicals are accepted for Green Cards then my wife should be able to get one. Who cares about price when I can have my family here, I will pay tripple the price in Brazil to have the medical here instead of sending them back to Brazil to sit around for months waiting.

What do you mean by sit around for months waiting? Ar you indicating you are considering adjusting status from a visitors visa while I-130 is pending? This is what the K-3 visa is for.

I find a simple NO hard to believe.

It is very simple actually..

If you are going to be getting a visa from a Dept. of State embassy abroad, you must go to one of the panel physicians in that country which the embassy is familar with.

If you are going to be getting adjustment of status for a Dept. of Homeland Security immigration office, you must go to one of the civil surgeons in the U.S. that USCIS has approved for this purpose.

Furthermore, the medical form submitted in connection with adjustment of status (Form I-693) is different from the form submitted in connection with a visa application (Form DS-2053). For visa processing, the consular officer is in fact also required to compare the signature of the physician on the form in the sealed envelope with the signature specimen filed with the embassy.

Bottom-line, you have to plan to visit the consulate's panel physician some time before the visa interview. Many people do it in the days immediately before the interview, but you should be able to do it up to 6 months in advance of the interview, but only with the consulate's designated panel physician.
