Congratulations Manish+Manya !! Thanks for sharing your interview experience in detail. It certainly helps and also puts us at ease.

I noticed that this thread consists of people with their SO in India. I have question regarding getting couple of certificates in India for my wife. The Chennai consulate says the following regarding one of things to be submitted for the consulate interview:

"Police Certificate: Each visa applicant over the age of 16 must present Indian police certificates as follows: one certificate from the applicant's local police station and one certificate from the applicant's regional passport office..." (http://chennai.usconsulate.gov/fiance/fiancee_visas.html#k3_k4).

My questions are:

1. What is a Police Certificate? Can my wife just go to a local police station and ask for it? Is there a standard format? How long has it taken for you to get a Police Certificate?

2. Did you get a certificate from regional passport office in addition to one from local police station? How is this certificate different from the one obtained from local police station? How long has it taken you to get one?

3. Is there a validity period for these certificates? Meaning, if they are older than few months, will the consulate not admit it?

4. My wife spent more than 6 months in several places after the age of 16. These places include - her home, her studies (different state), her job (different state) etc. Does she need to get her "Police Certificates" from all these places?

Sorry, lot of questions, but I hope it is not too much of a trouble. Since you all are waiting for interviews and have gone through this process, I hope it will not take too much of your time to help me with this.

Here's my timeline:

I-130

------

Received Date - 9/24/2007

Issue Date - 1/4/2008

I-129F

-------

Received Date - 1/22/2008

Issue Date - 1/23/2008

Thanks a lot and congrats again!

Best regards,

hurryup

There are two kinds of PCC

1. PCC from regional passport office. I got it in 3 days and the fees is Rs. 300 and is valid for 6 months. You can download the form from the website.

2. PCC from local commissioner office. I got it in 10 days and the fees is Rs. 500 and is valid for 1 year. You need to approach the special branch in the local commissioner office.

If your wife has spent more than 6 months in several places then she needs to get PCC from each city.

Let me add that there has to be proof of residence to get a local PCC. For instance, my husband lived in Hyderabad for 2 years working, but because he had no proof (no lease agreement, no local bank account, etc.) they would not give him a PCC. Luckily, the PCC from the passport office (in Visakhapatnam) and his village were sufficient. Though he had a Hyd address for all correspondence, no one requested a PCC from there.

I wrote to the New Delhi Consulate abt PCCs as my father was in the military and we were always moving from 1 place to the other.. As per what I knew - I would have needed PCCs from 4 places..

Here's the reply I got from the Consulate -

Dear Parul:

This is in response to your inquiry regarding the K-1 visa application.

The validity of PCC is one year from the date of its issuance. You need to obtain first PCC from local area police station

where you are residing for the past six months or more. The second PCC is required from the regional passport office.

Thus we need only two PCCs from India. Applicants who have resided in any other country for one year or more after

The age of 16 may also be required to submit police certificates for these countries.

We hope this information is useful to you. However, please contact us in case of any clarification.

Sincerely,

Visa Information Unit

U. S. Embassy

New Delhi, India

Hope this info helps people who are confused about PCCs

Congrats on getting the interview date... I can understand the nervousness, I am beyond being nervous now - total PANIC situation (interview on 3/04) :P

Don't worry abt not submitting PCCs at the VFS - I didn't get my PCC in time either. Just submit all the other docs in time and make sure to give them plenty of evidence too even if they say its not required. Everybody knows that getting the PCC in time is not in your hands and they understand.

All the best for your interview (F)(F)

Hello Fellow Members,

Just want to let everyone know that my wife's K3 Visa is approved!!!!:D.

Here is some information on what went on at the interview.

1) Reached there at 7:30am

2) First person to get inside. Got interviewed by 1st Immigration Officer around 8:30. The gentleman only asked for the K3 checklist. Did not ask for any 'Proof of relationship'

3) Was told to pay fee and get fingerprints done.

4) Around 10am, second interview occurred. That gentleman asked alot of question (about 10) and mostly about me and what i do here in America.

Over all it went real smooth!

Quick Question: Does anyone know how long does it take for the Embassy to send the documents over to VFS? My wife had her interview on Monday and she called them up today and VFS office stated that they have not recieved her passport yet. She is planning to leave on Thursday (India Time).

Thanks!

I am back from my visit to Ludhiana. Congrats everyone who got their interviews done. Looks like everyone got through. That's a good indication. Tomorrow I will be going to Chennai for my medicals. So made a quick checklist. Let me know if anything is missing.

a) two photos

B) interview letter (original)

c) passport (original)

d) medical forms given in Packet 4

Another question.. Do I need to fill in the medical form beforehand or when the Lister Lab at Chennai do their diagnostics?

Thanks,

ravi
