Strangely enough, my wife never got on the whole "Tim Horton's is fantastic" bandwagon and doesn't really understand why they're considered so great. She says their coffee is "good" but really no better than Second Cup or Starbucks. I think the Canadian allegiance to Tim Horton's is more out of national pride than anything else, considering that American companies tend to impress themselves on other nations.

WideAwake...did you choose that handle when you were under the influence of Tim Horton's? Is that why you're wide awake? ;)

I haven't tried it yet...in an effort to save money, I make mine at home and actually prefer it. Plus, we have two independently owned coffee places close to us, and I try to spend my money there.

Great Scott, you're right! O.K. Canadians, where's the outrage? "Timmys" owned by Yanks? Don't worry, if the Dollar keeps up this downward spiral you'll all own America soon enough anyway.

From what little I understand of the so-called difference in taste, American ketchup uses high-fructose corn syrup and Canadian ketchup doesn't. Honestly, I can't tell the difference in terms of flavor. I've had both and they seem the same to me. I must admit, however, that ketchup is not a huge part of my diet.

In the canadian forum, they swear up and down that the catsup tastes much different there.

No, it's actually a homage to U2:

I couldn't fit America into the handle, so I settled for TheUSA. I do drink coffee like it's going out of style though and do like Tim Hortons. I just can't see myself standing in a line like I witnessed in Ontario though!

If Canadians get upset at that, well... they'll really get ticked off at this -- the Hudson's Bay Company (North America's oldest company) is owned by an American. Jerry Zucker, an Israeli-American, acquired the company and became the head of it in 2006. I'm betting quite a few Canadians don't know this either.

We have three here. I FAR prefer Horton's over Krispy Kreme. I've never understood the KK obsession. All our Dunkin' Doughnuts, shut down a few years back.

Oh, and I love Canadian Catsup! Its sweeter.

buy you can get ketchup (is catsup a canadianism?) without HFCS here - it's just not heinz

Well, that's just it. By "American ketchup" I mean Heinz, since that's what most foreigners (Canadians included) believe American ketchup is (for better or worse). You really should read the Canadian forum some time. It's interesting. If you were to believe it, everything in Canada is vastly superior to the U.S. in every way -- except, perhaps Canada Post. It seems USPS is considered better than the Canadian postal system, which is quite a scary thought.
