A funny thing happened down at the DMV today...

So after getting the my AOS approved today we went and applied for a SSN and to get a New Jersey drivers license.

We went to the DMV and I showed them my Ontario G1 license.

I was waiting for them to tell me that I would need to take a road test....but they didn't.

They didn't ask any questions. It was strange.

I mean I could have, perhaps should have, told them the truth...but I just kind of stood there nodding along. Wondering when they were going to bring it up.

I kind of feel like I won something.

I never ever had to take a road test.

I went from being a beginner to a driver and I NEVER HAD TO PARALLEL PARK!

He asked me if my license was just a regular one and I was like: "Ya"

Saweet!!! I never had to parallel park either to get my original licence.. i was just driving one day with my driving instructor and she said.. well you are ready for your licence.. there never even was a Test per se! ;) Congrads!!

Cool. My parallel parking involved me blocking a driveway, so I cleared the driveway. The instructor said to me that he told me to park behind the car. I politely informed him that there was a driveway there and at no time should a vehicle block a driveway. He said we would only be a few minutes to which I said, the law is the law.

I got my licence. Now, should I be lucky enough to get to Chicago, I wonder if I'll have to do it all over again. After 30 years of driving, aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

whats a g1, g2 and novice?

Is that new???

Graduating licensing in Ontario isn't new, its about 12 years old now.

You get a G1 when you do your written test...so it's your beginners...I was only a beginner

You get a G2 when you do your road test, but you still have restrictions.

Then you go for your G...which is your full license.

Im in VA, simple exchange of licenses (no exams) And I DID get to keep my motorcycle endorsement. BUT dont ever let ur license expire (at least in VA) they can make you do it ALL over again, including ur motorcycle endorsement!! I drove around for a month with an expired license! oops! The lady almost took it all away, luckily a supervisor was in a good mood!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

No offense, but that's kinda scary. Congrats on the licenses. I think.:blush:

Stay off the roads in jersey!

Oh I answered yes to being an organ donor too, which was funny because I never even really thought about it and the guy asked me and I was like: "Sure why not!"

Now that I think about it, I don't want them to take my eyes!! :(
