Congratulations!

Guayaquil has always seemed to be slower to return passports than other consulates. Expect the 10 days, and be pleased if it's earlier than that.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

Hey All -

So my fiancé's interview is in a few weeks - which is so much sooner than we expected! Its exciting. I won't be able to be there but we have so much evidence and I front loaded the I-129F with a lot of evidence so I think we will be ok. I have some general questions about documents and things for the interview. In this forum I saw some documents listed that I didn't think were necessary and just want to check before I expedite some documents to Ecuador.

1. Do you need to include a W-2 with the I-134? From what I read on the instructions on the form it is only necessary if the sponsor is self employed. We have the other financial evidence (bank statement, letter from employer, etc). I just want to make sure.

2. Does my fiancé need the original documents of the following:

  • NOA1 and 2
  • My (the petitioner's) birth certificate

3. does his police record and birth certificate need to be translated? If so, can we just do that? or does it need to be official and notarized?

My last question is about the medical exam - will my fiancé not know until the interview how it went or if he needs any treatments? I am sure we will be fine but they didn't tell him anything when he picked up his results. I just wanted to make sure this is what normally happens. If he needs vaccines or anything will they let him know at the interview?

Thanks everyone so much for posting your experiences - they have been so helpful!

1. In general: Read instructions accurately, interpret them literally, and answer/follow them completely and honestly. If you're not self-employed, it would appear that no W-2 is needed. Others here will comment about anything particular that's currently needed in GYQ.

2. Never hurts to have them, but if you can't supply them, the consul knows that at least the birth certificate is in the I-129F petition papers. The conventional wisdom is to bring the kitchen sink -- better to have something and not need it than the converse.

3. Barring specific consular instructions, those documents shouldn't need to be translated if they're in the native language of the home country. Others here can answer the official-nature (apostille) question.

Medical: Others can answer the "results known" question. I recommend (to all beneficiaries, everywhere) to be vaccinated for the later AOS requirements ahead of time, in the home country -- it's almost always cheaper -- and most certainly to bring more than one original copy of their vaccination records (signed by the family doctor or stamped by a clinic) to the U.S. Mrs. T-B.-to-be brought her vaccination records, got the missing two shots here, and had a straightforward completion of the I-693 form for AOS.

Again, others here can comment more specifically.

Hi guys,

First post here! I've been reading for months though. Congrats to all who have previously been approved their K1's in Guayaquil! My fiance and I are mailing our packet in on Tuesday ideally, pending I get these pictures printed off :)

Question on Ecuadorian mailing address. Her home address is in Quito but she will be living in Riobamba by the time we get this packet sent off so we were going to open a Correo Ecuador mailbox in Riobamba for her and list that on Part 2, questions 3a-3i, "Alien Fiancé(e)'s Mailing Address ". She went to Correo Ecuador today and they said you just need your house's exact mailing address and postal code and they'll deliver it, or you can put the office. Her mom works at a school so we decided it was more reliable to put the school's address on the section for her mailing address.

What did you guys do? Or will they just send the packet to the consulate in Guayaquil and she has to pick it up?

Also (sorry for all the questions!), do they send her just 1 packet, or 2 different one's? I know one comes with the medical testing information, asking her to fill out form DS-160, and schedule the interview, but I didn't know if she had to mail any forms back or just bring all the results with her to the interview. Help appreciated!

Hi, we just put her home address and left it at that.

When we went through the process, as soon as I confirmed that the consulate had received her paper work, we just downloaded the package and filled everything out. We didn't wait for the package to arrive. We scheduled our interview and a month after that (while we waited for the interview) the package finally arrived. If you choose to wait, you can do that. We decided not to wait.

Very cool! That makes a lot of sense. I thought they sent like a medical exam in the packet? I have definitely seen the packet on the Embassy website before though and looked at it at one point.

Anybody else do this and recommend it? Great idea really. Much rather rely on the internet than Ecuadorian mail service hehe :)

Can you verify the process for me? Once the Consulate in Guayaquil receives her paperwork from the States (and of course all the prior steps being approved too), they then mail the package to her, but we can just download it online and do the medical testing, do the DS-160, schedule the date, etc.. Right? Then we just take all those results and documents requested to the interview, or do they get mailed back?

Welcome to the forum and the thread.

Thank you!! We are praying for great results and all of your guys' posts really have helped in the process. Priceless website! So excited to marry the love of my life!!

davidloveasarson, you definitely do not need to and probably should not wait for the packet. You can now find the packet online. It's basically instructions whereas before you had to physically receive and submit it. Most people now don't receive it until after they're already in the states like my husband! :)

My signature below has information on next steps, interview tips, etc, though you may have already seen it! If not, check it out! Make sure you're viewing the full VJ page rather than mobile, as the mobile mode cuts out our signatures on here.

I did actually read all of your tips a couple months ago :)

Thank you for your advice. I'll go ahead and have my fiance just download the packet and familiarize herself with it now. Since I'm in Idaho and Nebraska doesn't process K1 visas, we're almost certain our packet will go to the California Service Center which should mean a faster process!

Mailed off the I-129F USPS Express Mail to the Lewisville lockbox today! WOO! I'm super excited!

I wasn't going to send a plethora of evidence of an ongoing relationship but yesterday changed my mind and HEAVILY front loaded the packet with lots of letters, skype logs, family statements, pictures, copies of a picture book made, etc. etc... Glad I did, makes me feel more confident :) Appreciate all of your help and feedback on this forum to help pave the way for new folk like myself entering this process!

Can anyone that has had a K-1 recent interview (or K-3 for that matter), at the Guayaquil, Ecuador Consulate tell me if they allow evidence of an ongoing or bona fide relationship be presented at the time of the interview? I'm aware things has improved as of lately, but what kind of experience anyone can share with this otherwise considered troublesome post? Thanks.

(Presuming that things have returned to the normalcy of a decently run consulate, as it appears) They won't refuse same-day material, but it might not get looked at very thoroughly, simply from a timing standpoint.

Will the Amcit petitioner be on the consular premises? If so, have the beneficiary show the U.S. passport to the CO, and say that the Amcit is available to join the interview if the CO has any questions.
