Si, ma'am. Just be prepared for any monkeyshines that they might pull.

They may indeed pull monkeyshines. Be prepared. It's best to over-prepare. That's what I did. I even got letters from my superior officers attesting to my character. Were they needed? No. But I wanted to paint myself in the best possible light.

One of the reviews of the consulate says that Phil Linderman is no longer associated with them. We'll need to find out who the new Section Chief is, si man.

Maybe he went to Macedonia, since everyone gets turned away there now and they tried to drag my hubby through the coals

Whether so or not, you raise a good point of awareness: A new Section Chief can be transferred in and policies, procedures, and standards can change drastically with no notice, si man. This is one reason never to treat the consular phase of the process lightly, no man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Hey guys,

Hubby and I just got the P4 today - our interview will be on May 29th. I'm sure I've asked this question somewhere before, but I can't find it now. After the interview, how long did it take to receive the passport with the visa in it? We're trying to get a general idea of when we'll be able to travel. My younger brother and sister are graduating from high school in early June and I was hoping we'd be able to make the ceremony.

Any experience would be helpful.

Thanks!

It took us about a week but I have ready other having to wait 2 or 3 weeks to get it.

The way it works now, you go pick it up at DHL. Make sure you select the policia DHL or whatever it is called. It is right by the consulate, otherwise it will need to get shipped out to another DHL which will add some more time.

Well, we don't live in Guayaquil (or even in Guayas for that matter)... We're six hours away in Manabi, so we're going to have to get it shipped to another DHL. I guess we should expect two weeks or so, then? Is there any way to track it, to see when it arrives?

same way it works in the USA. Once they have your passport ready they will print a shipping label. It will then appear on the visa service site. You go to DHL's website to track where it is.

http://guayaquil.usconsulate.gov/delivery-of-your-passport.html

I would say shipping it to another location will probably add about 3 days. 1 day to go to the main location in guayaquil. 1 day for transit. 1 day for the new location to realize they have it. DHL is no FED-EX :)

So, our case got to GYE last Monday, and today I sent them an email at the consulate asking if I could ask for same day passport pickup at the consulate itself, since I would really like to make it home in time for my brother's graduation, which is eight days after the interview and normal DHL shipping would be cutting it really close. They replied to me two hours later (super quick!) with this response:

Dear Mrs. Sxxxx:

Thank you for your message. If the consular officer approves your husband’s immigrant visa, you may request during the interview to pick up the visa the same day or the next following day.

Atentamente,

Sección Visas de Inmigrantes

Consulado General Americano

Guayaquil, Ecuador

How reliable do you guys think this is? Has anybody else done this? Obviously I'm not going to buy any plane tickets until we have the visa in hand, but I was just wondering how probable you guys think this possibility is.

Thanks!

This must be something new -- I wasn't aware that they offered same-day, or even next-day, pick-up. We got "the printer is down" and a runaround of many days.

The e-mail says "request" it, so I guess request it and hope. Do take the printout of your e-mail with you, as well as any other e-mail between you & them.

Yeah, I will definitely be taking a copy of the email with me. I guess we'll just mention it and cross our fingers for the best.

Interview was yesterday. Very easy day, and we were approved at the end! I already posted a review. Just for those who were wondering, they do offer a same day visa pick-up service, because we used it! I took a copy of the email they sent me, though, just in case. If you're going to have your interview there, I would definitely mention it to the interviewer to see if you can take advantage of it, too.

Congrats!!!

Seems like they have gotten the consulate into the computer age since I was there last year. They didn't have the fingerprints(I dont' think) or person typing in the info on the computer for our interview. The guy just scribbled on a piece of paper.

Like you I think most people were denied if their fiance wasn't there. That seems to pretty much be required there.

My Wife just got her I-512 a few weeks ago (8 months after filing) and we still haven't received word on the interview for her green card. So be prepared to be stuck in the USA for a while once you get in :)
