Who knows? But im very happy to see Guayaquil Consulate on the list, so now we can keep track of whats going on in Guayaquil apart from Quito.

I really cant thank this site enough for providing me with all the information needed to get my wife here in USA. She hated winter though, and I mean she REALLY HATED IT HERE during winter time.... She got to see whats its like to shovel snow!!! lol But its ok, her parents will be trying for their tourist visa soon because we just made a trip last week to Ecuador. The only bad part is once in a while she gets upset because she has no friends or family in NY everyone's in Guayaquil/ Duran...

Bump, because yet another couple is about to get hosed by this ####### consulate:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/320205-what-are-my-options-if-interview-rejected/

The specific circumstances aside, this is proof positive that both halves of the couple MUST be present at the FIRST interview in order to minimize or avoid problems!

My Ecuadorian fiancee and I interviewed at the consulate on Aug. 30th. For whatever reason, they didn't like us/thought there was something fishy about us, and called us back for a "more thorough" interview 4 days later. During the second interview, they grilled my fiancee for 30 minutes, separately from me, and then asked me the same questions they asked her, apparently to try catch us in lies. I'm not going to describe the possible reasons/conspiracy theories that I have as to why they didn't like us. My question is the following:

It's been exactly 6 weeks since our second interview. The man who interviewed us gave me a direct extension and told me to call back in one week for an answer, because he doesn't make the final decision. Rather, the consular officer has to review the file and decide. So, I called the next week, and I've been calling twice a week for the past 6 weeks, always receiving the same answer: "The consular officer is reviewing the file...I cannot tell you when it will be decided...please call back next week." At least, two weeks ago, the man was nice enough to say that the file was "touched" but nothing has changed since then. This week, I asked the guy, sarcastically, if it's ever taken 6 months for the officer to make a decision. Without fail, his vague response: "not usually."

I've been told there is absolutely no other person who i can call to get them to make a decision. I offered to have the officer call me back and let me answer any additional questions he may have, but that's not happening. And the line, "let me speak with your supervisor" doesn't work at the consulate. Does anybody have ANY suggestions about what I can do to get an answer? I'm in purgatory, dying a slow death, every day that goes by. The only thing that consoles me is to believe that if they were going to actually deny us, they would have done it quickly rather than drag it on for so long...or am I naive about that as well?

Ah, Guayaquil is still up to its same monkeyshines with the Stokes interviews, sigh man...

You should have posted this in the "US Consulate in Guayaquil, Ecuador" thread in the Embassy/Consulate forum for more help. (Have you read and absorbed the thread?) I'll see if a VJ Moderator can attach this post there, si man:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/110313-us-consulate-in-guayaquil-ecuador/

Send a polite e-mail with your story and request to IVGuayaquil@state.gov with subject line "To Chief Linderman". Phil Linderman was the head of the IV unit when the rest of us were going through our hell, and I believe that he was subsequently promoted to head the entire visa operations. If he's still there, the e-mail will get to him. Be sure to offer your phone numbers for a personal consultation at his discretion.

There's another way to try by phone, but read the above-referenced thread in full before doing anything at all.

Keep the faith, si man.

Thanks T Bone. Your commitment to this thread over the years is very impressive. My fiancee actually got a call on her cell from a Spanish speaker at the consulate last week, asking for her to re-confirm her address and home phone number. Of course, they already have that information on multiple pieces of paper...Regardless, she asked when she might get an answer, and they actually feigned being apologetic, told her there was a large backlog of files, and they hope to have an answer in 3 or 4 weeks.

In light of their phone call, I am undecided about sending a message to Linderman. According to the State Department (http://www.state.gov/r/pa/ei/bgn/35761.htm), Linderman is currently listed as the Chief Consular Officer. I suppose it's anybody's guess whether he would actually look into my case upon reading the email. And yet, as long as I'm very polite, it probably can't harm me to write to him.

i guess i'll write to him.

I second your sentiment MalaysianGirl... TBone has always been a great source of information to those members going through the Guayaquil Embassy and has shared of his story selflessly. Personally I respect the hell out of the guy because he did what was necessary to get his loved one here and years later - have a successful marriage. I'm happy to consider TBone a friend.

  • 4 weeks later...

Hi all, I'm late to the party, but my girlfriend and I just started our process towards the K1 back in December. I have to say, I'm both nervous and anxious to have our interview in Guayaquil... I think I submitted a thorough I-129F to USCIS and I'm anxiously waiting for that NOA2... I've read quite a few of these threads, both positive and negative, and I'm nervous. The bad ones have dates that go back 3 years and the good ones are fairly recent, so I hope for a pleasant experience at the consulate. I think we'll be fine. I definitely plan on being there at the interview, even though I've read people's positive experiences about going solo to the interview I don't want to risk it. And it's also an excuse to see my baby =)

I've read a lot and I definitely want to thank all of you wonderful couples for posting your experiences at the Guayaquil Consulate. I'm studying it all and hope to continue to absorb more and more so that we can get the visa on the first interview.

If anybody has any more to share, I'll gladly accept any info.

Thank you all!
