We unfortunately have Comcast in central Florida... I'm not a fan of cable and the no choices (in this area at least) for providers.. we have Comcast or Direct TV or one of the other dishes that go out the first sign of a cloud. Comcast customer support is terrible, their technicians ranged from nice to unfriendly! It took us 3 attempts for them to "switch us on" even though we where already on! They even said they couldn't switch us on because the pole was in a neighbours yard and we'd have to get permission for them to access their equipment on their pole in some else's yard!!.. They never got on the pole.. the neighbours wouldn't let them and we found our why... They are all hogging free cable the ba$tards!

After the initial setup problems we did get up and running and haven't had a problem since. We pay about $11 for analogue and get 70+ channels (we're meant to get like 20 or 25 I think?). We have told Comcast more times than I can remember about all the channels but their customer "service" people don't care and don't want to know!!

We run Vonage through our cable and haven't had any problems with it. Just like the other poster said, get a UPS and your phone service will keep on going, just check how much juice the UPS can expend in total and factor in your price, read some reviews and you'll be alright! Do expect to have to replace the battery every 1 - 3 years, it pays to get a known brand for this reason. We have Vonage setup to forward calls to our cell, just in case we're out or the power go's out again... why isn't Florida called the electric storm state as well as the sunshine state!

we have comcast for cable and it is always going out/having problems with the picture/ondemand always failing etc. we're switching to verizon cable in a couple of months.

yeah that sounds like par for the course. I had comcast for long time and I used to be a COMM Tech for them. Always a issue with ondemad which is the fault of the head end. Once someone tv troubles were trace to another customer's digital box.

but I switched to Verizon FIOS also.

I put up with the crapy comcast TV picture because I was a employee. The internet and phone worked fine.. really never had a issue sometime it went out or was slow.

that is pure B$, I used to be a tech at comcast and you have access to the pole or box. even if it is in someone elses year. It is the Right to Esmente. They can not block you access. IF home owner denied you access or demanded you to get off theri property then I would call my supervisor then they call the cops. I have gone into many peoples back yards to get to the tap, sometime I ask permission and they did not have problem. I even told someone that I will need to get back in their yard to disconnect someone. Just I would not go in the back yard if they have a big dog or something that could be dangerous. that was a excuse from the tech and I would of also tried to get out of it cause I hate and almost refussed to go up a pole. My feet are meant to be firmly planted on the ground :P

I know it #######, you know it ####### but no one at Comcast appeared to give a $hite if I got switched on or not. Believe me I told all 3 "techs" that they must have access rights, they said no.. not without permission of the property owner. I called their "call center" and they basically told me to get permission for their tech's to get on the pole! I couldn't believe it. I said no way, that is your equipment on your pole it's your problem! The response was that I wouldn't get "switched on" without them having access! I told them I was "switched on" I just wanted officially switched on and some internet!!!

I too thought the same thing that they have access rights and that they should call their boss, if it came to it have the police escort them through the property to the pole and out again but they did not in anyway shape or form want anything to do with that. They wanted in and out, quick and easy, I believe all 3 where contract installers. One of the techs said he would never enter anyone's yard without permission in case he got shot at or someone let the dog out at him... he was being very serious.

As I said we got switched on officially in the end but.. we're still getting all the channels and we shouldn't be. I'm sure the service will still be running when we leave and our "landlord" will ask the next tenant to pay for cable though him again. The man is a dirtbag...
