UK applicants - has anyone else seen this?

The ACPO Criminal Records Office is piloting an initiative to provide Police Certificates for Visa purposes. The four countries involved in the pilot are Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States of America.

The fee seems to have gone up to £35 and the certificate only lasts six months!

I just called today and confirmed this with the ACPO. The woman I spoke with said it will become mandatory sometime around April/May 2008 and that the Embassy will decide how long the certificate is good for! I told her on this new certificate it says it's good for 6 months. She repeated, the Embassy will decide.

I was going to the Post Office today to send off his completed certificate, I'm glad I called! Will be waiting now to get this new one. I can't believe how they change things but don't always make it easy for us to find out!

Feb 05 - met on match.com, spoke daily over Skype

Mar 05 - boy flew out to San Francisco to meet me, it was love at first site!

May 05 - I flew to Bristol, first time ever in England!

Sept 05 - boy flew back to SF, we got married!

Nov 05 - boy flew to SF for 2 week visit

Feb 06 - I moved with my dog to Bristol

****************

4 visits home for 2 weeks at a time during these 2 years

(very homesick and not happy living in England)

****************

April 2nd - I-130 & G325a sent! DCF process begins!

April 4th - Credit card charged!

April 5th - Email confirming file date of 4/4/08

June 21st - RFE for affidavits...bummer.

July 8th - sent affidavits back to Embassy

June 16th - Received NOA2!! Yay!

It does say that they aim to get them within 10 working days from receipt, which will be a big help to some people.

And extra revenue for the police

This will bring the price in line with the CRB check that some employers have to make which I think is about £34 for a full disclosure.

I did think £10 was cheap in comparison for basically the same information.

wow, so... will I need to get a new one? I got mine already under the old system since it supposedly was good for up to a year

I would wait and see. I'm sure there will be a cross over period. When you get your packet 3 it should tell you if you need the new one. It says they aim to introduce it april/may time so chances are you will know before your interview which one you are expected to produce. If the new ones are being sent out within 10 days then it wont be too bad to get one before the interview if needed.

Dang. I just keep missing those deadlines! First found out about the K1 in July, right before the fees went up. Now I think I'll have to wait for the new certificate as I won't have my interview until summer at the earliest.

Thanks for the heads-up!

I just received my police certificate this morning. I actually have a CRB enhanced disclosure as well but didn't want to risk having the 'wrong' form at interview. So, I do think it's worth waiting on info from the US embassy on this because people could end up wasting money on a certificate which the embassy may not recognise until it has passed the pilot stage. That said, it could well be that both forms will be accepted until one form becomes the preferred method.

I'm hoping to get packet 3 in the next two weeks, I will post an update on what the instructions say when it comes through.
