Overweight police officers in a Mexican city could be offered cash bonuses to slim down.

A diet of fizzy drinks, tacos and sweets is said to be weighing down crime fighters in Aguascalientes.

Authorities want to offer 100 pesos (£5) for every kilo lost by portly policemen, reports the BBC.

About a quarter of the city's 1,600-strong force are reported to be overweight. Doctors would decide how much weight each needed to lose.

The move could help some officers earn a healthy bonus as they lose pounds. A city official said some officers were about 20 kilos overweight.

One politician behind the plan told the BBC that some officers currently had to stop chasing criminals after just five metres.

How much is a kilo?

And how much will five quid get you in Mexico? o_O

...I'd take all my reward money for losing and go have a MASSIVE taco splurge and go 'haha suckers' and gain it all back :D

I love the british system of cops. No guns, just REALLY BIG really fit burly intimidating police that ride around in huge vans and when they stop like NINE of them jump out to antagonize one poor guy xD And they're wearing funny fluorescent vests while doing it. It's so cool.
