Well, looks like we're on our way - the NOA2 was mailed out today (yay! for emailed updates from USCIS) ... and then it hit me that I have NO idea what to do now. I never expected it to be this soon and I really am not prepared - not in the least.

The guides aren't really telling me what I need to know now either - anyone who's been through Kingston want to help me figure out what's next?

I think the address and phone number on the petition is incorrect right now; since we never expected the petition to be processed so soon, we never got around to calling to change my address. We couldn't do it online since the site won't accommodate the Jamaica address formatting and since we figured March or April was the earliest, we procrastinated on calling the 1-800 number. Considering the petition is now approved, who needs to be called with the new address?

The other question I have is: any current guesstimates on how soon they might call to schedule an interview? I'm still in the States visiting and I want to know when to change/reschedule my flight back home for, if at all. I see someone's timeline notes a interview date within 79 days of NOA2 and someone else wrote about the DS 230 form ... all-in-all, I am confused. Seriously not sure what to do now.... any help would be appreciated.

Hey Cejf;

Welcome to VJ and goodluck on your journey. Congrats on your approval. You can visit the yardie thread under the regional forum and your questions will be welcomed and answered there. While you are waiting for your interview date to be scheduled, you can continue to gather evidence that needs to be submitted to prove your ongoing relationship. Have the petitioner prepare your Affidavit of support and the beneficiary download and prepare the DS-230 and get 2 passprt pictures to submit with it.

There is a lot of info on the yardie thread. Come join us. We will be happy to help you along in the process. Again, welcome and hope to see you on the thread soon.

Congratulations on everything moving fast for you. My best advice concering the DS-230 is when the consulate receives the documents from NVC, then e-mail the consulate and request an appointment to drop the DS-230 (which you can download) then they will mail you packet 4 (which is the interview date). Don't wait for the consulate to send the DS-230 b/c I never recieved it and it delayed my process by 6 weeks.

You should have an interview somewhere around late May

Gyal yuh nah tell me yuh get yuh NOA2!!! Woo Hoo!!! That was quick-quick!!!

Well now you have to wait for USCIS to forward your petition to NVC. This is sometimes slow, sometimes fast. While you wait for that, you can elect to get all your paperwork sent to a Jamaica address or to your fiance in the states. I would check out the guides HERE

You need to wait til the NVC gives you a KNG# for your case. Then either email them or mail in the DS3032 and elect your choic of agent...this is the person and address you want to rest of your paperwork and instructions and things to be sent to. After that you start getting your police reports and medical done....you can check out that link above for more info on this. You probably won't be at interview stage til May.....boy thats fast! I wish I was there causeI sent my forms out in October too, but they are far from processing October CR1's out of CSC. Probably won't be at interview time til October this year.

Anyway congrats again....your on your way!! :D

Yuh knoa Lita, mi feel seh yuh soon get the NOA2 and hubby going to be here by summer. Mi have dis sneaky feeling. Nuh fret, yuh soon be in the frenzy!!!

Cejf - I am sure you are very confused, but don't fret it will get clear soon. You don't have to worry about the Choice of Agent form to send to NVC. For K-1 visas, once NVC receives the case they assign the case number and send it to Jamaica, where everything else happens. You need to fill out the DS-230 and the best thing seems to be once you know that Kingston has it, email them for an appointment to bring in the form to them. That will move things faster for you in reference to an interview date. You are going to need to do the medical (which should be scheduled at least 2 weeks before your interview) and get your police certificates. Make sure you have your birth certificate (the new one from RGD) and I heard it's good to have handy your Non-impediment form, which states that you are able to get married, ie you're not married to anyone else. Jason&Marla are going the K3 route which is similar to yours, but you may also want to get in touch with Gill (Deyoungting) who is petitioning for her fiance and was in your shoes a few months ago. She may better be able to guide you along the K1 trail.

So happy for you and I hope you hear something soon. If you want to check to see if NVC got your case, you can call 603-334-0700 and enter in your receipt number. The automated system will let you know whether they have received your case or not. Best of luck to you!

I agree with some of this good advice and some they forgot........

Get some passport photos taken.......you will need at least 8 at this point.

Download DS-230, fill it out, and once Kingston gets your case, make that appointment to drop it off.

Go get a police certificate.

Go get a non-impediment form.

If you are missing any shots, go to the nearest clinic and get them. Then, make sure to schedule medical once you get an interview date.

I suggest getting an extra copy of your birth certificate to bring to the states with you. You'll need it for lots of things and it's a big pain to go through the NY JA embassy to get more.

You and your fiance need to put all the evidence together......call records, tickets, receipts of any kind, pictures.....all your proof. Follow the guides and you will know what you need.

As far as the new address goes, I don't know who you need to call or tell; but I know it is pretty important to do that immediately. If they mail something to the old address, it will be returned to the embassy and this could cause you some problems.

Good luck to you.

We successfully navigated the K-1 route. I'm always happy to answer questions and help if I can.

JG,

Do you still need the non-impediment form if you've NEVER been married? I'm telling my girlfriend that her fiance needs it, but she was told no by the embassy it was not necessary. I told her to get it just to make sure, because I don't trust them (especially since she was not informed in writing). I think she said it was $7,000(ja) for the certificate. Her interview is also in March, the 11th I believe. She's also doing a K-1. I guess a lot of people have interviews the same day. Her brother's wife is also being interviewed that day.

The whole point of that form is to show that you haven't been married or are legally divorced.

As far as I know, yes, you still need it. I have not heard anyone recently say they didn't need it. It is still specified on the embassy paperwork.

Yah, that's about right....it was around $100US.

Ok...

Marlita: nuh fret, I feel your NOA2 is not too far away now. a friend of mine had her K1 process take a year ... in particular, 6 months to when she got her NOA2. I suspect that might have had something to do with the embassy in Kingston moving house. If they are processing K1s this fast now, maybe all the other processings have speeded up also. Keep de fait', my gurl. Your time soon come.

Sarri seh mi neva seh nutten. I guess mi ongle excuse was being here wid hubby-to-be is taking up a lot of my time and energies ... heh. Plus, as mi seh above, dat 2nd response from Claire kinda discourage me. Mi check mi fren' who jus' done her K1 herself fi advice and shi did tell mi fi jus' email de embassy wid de new address and chill, cos de pkt3 is at least 3 months away.

Imagine my surprise to hear from Mom today. *glee*

JaTam: Tonx. DS230 ASAP. Gotcha. Altho, the letter that Mom tried to read to me said something about te DS156 and an application fee that had to be submitted before they could give me my interview. So I am a little more confused now. What I decided tho, was that it was best to have Dad FedEx me that package ASAP, go through it thoroughly, leave a copy for hubby-to-be and head back to Kingston in 2 weeks and start the running up and down.

Jomo'sGirl: Thanks SO much for that. That was helpful - pictures, police cert, shots, et al .... got it. The package that Dad is sending has a case number in it. And they sent it to the correct address. I had emailed them last week with the case number off the NOA1 and the new address, looks like it was just in time. :)

Ok ... thanks for all this good advice, I'm gonna print this thread along with the guides and start reading. I am so flustered right now, I don't know which end is up. /sigh Thanks for the support tho, I REALLY appreciate this.

Yah, that's about right....it was around $100US.

don't know if it's dif for CR 1 and K 1 but we didn't need the no impediment form...
