Gov. Ed Rendell, one of Hillary Rodham Clinton's most visible supporters, said some white Pennsylvanians are likely to vote against her rival Barack Obama because he is black.

"You've got conservative whites here, and I think there are some whites who are probably not ready to vote for an African-American candidate," Rendell told the editorial board of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in remarks that appeared in Tuesday's paper.

Sounds like the Clinton's have a surrogate working to help them win in PA. They can't pull the race card again themselves so they have ole' Ed jump in and do the dirty work for them. This is the Clinton's throwing more mud at their opponent because they don't have anything of substance to hold against him.

ETA: One can only hope that this little stunt backfires on them.

I don't know why politicians say things like that. They must know the media will report on it and that it can't be good for their public image. At the very least, if they're thinking these things, they should probably keep it to themselves or only say it with people who won't leak it to the press.
