Hello all,

I am the USC petitioning for my husband. I was married August 2007. I filled out all the paperwork for i-130 in August anticipating that i would change my last name to my husbands name. So all paperwork i filled out, i signed with our "Family' name, being my husbands last name. However, fast forward 6 months ahead and I have not legally changed my name to his yet. I was waiting for a copy of our marriage certificate and other reasons. I don't know now if i am going to drop my last name all together. i think I will just hyphen it, cause my full name is used in my business and its beneficial to me to keep my last name. So now what do i do about all that paperwork that I filled out with hubbys name?

Will this be a problem at our interview if my last name on my photo ID, passport, and other identification doesnt match that of the I130 packet? My NOA1 has already listed me with hubby's last name, but in all honesty its not my true last name. What do I do?

my name was not changed at it was not a problem. I had signed all of the visa documents for him in his last name. You will be fine.

Oh thats good to hear. I was starting to fret about not changing my name. Didn't know how that worked with name checks.

i m also worried about this name change issue

My husband has filed all the paper work needed for wife immigrant visa and he got NOA-1 with my new last name (his last name) but I have a valid passport and all my documents with my old last name as single will that be a problem for issuing the visa?

Question – 1:- Is it necessary that PASSPORT MUST MATCH EXACTLY WITH THE NAME ON PACKET 1-130?

Question - 2:- Do I have to make a fresh passport with my new last name and marital status?

i have asked these ques many time but i m not getting the satisfactory ans from anywhere :crying:

after NOA2......when ur case goes to NVC......then NVC( in some cases embassy) collects DS 230 form from beneficiary(u can chk DS230 form online).....in that form their is space for ur actual name and name after marriage( for women).......

now according to me if u r using ur husband name/lastname legally on all papers(marriage cert etc)......u should get ur name change in passport.....bcoz its good to be on safer side than facing problem afterward.....now u have time ,use it

and if not ....then its ok

hope this will help

I signed all my paparwork using my last name not my husband's....Will that cause a problem???...I figured I wait until my husband is up here to change my last name..This is confusing..I feel like I am walking on egg shells with this whole process..One unintentional mess up can cause everything to go wrong.

You shouldn't have a problem. I kept my maiden name after marriage so everything I sign is still with my original name. Your marriage certificate is what ties the two of you together legally - not necessarily your name.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Could anyone tell me? I have not changed my name to my new married name. I sent my petitions with my old name which it is legally. Do you guys think this will be a problem if:

a. I change it before the interview and the paperwork does not match. or

b. I leave things the way they are until after the interview. My husband and I would have different names. Would this look bad to the consulate doing the interview for the proof of relationship?

I haven't changed mine yet, either. I'm nowhere near the endpoint but the truth is, it is a real pain to change my name at work because of the number of accounts (computer) that would also have to be updated. The other thing is that my passport still has quite a few years on it and I don't want to give it up for a name change.

Bottom line is that my last name doesn't have anything to do with the bonifides of my marriage. So, if a name issue crops up, I'll answer it but I certainly won't worry about it.

MARLITA you filled all documents stating you have new last name. If I were you I would change the last name to make sure when comes to checking everything goes smooth.

As for buisnes you still can use your maiden name, Can you?

I change my last name only because my maiden was typical polish -no one was able to pronounce it and when I was spelling it I was using half of alphabet :) .

For two years although I was using my old passport without a problem.
