Its been 2 weeks since I came to US on K1 visa. I went to the SSA office near my place (Astoria) to apply for SSN. The officer said I have to go to Jamaica office to apply for a new one. She saw my passport, checked online and said I have to get I68 (I heard so) from immigration.

I wonder whats that I68 and is it because my dat has not been update online. Its been 2 weeks already.

You must not have understood as Form I-68 is the Canadian Border Boat Landing Permits application (according to the USCIS).

Anyway... the SSA folks were wrong... If you had the SSA-5 application form filled out and had with you the required documentation then there is nothing else you need... Go back or go to a different office.

YMMV

What are they talking about?!

All I showed was my passport with my K1 Visa glued in there and the I-94 stapled in it.

That was it.

I applied at my local office Jan 31 and it arrived yesterday in the mail.

Make a call to the information line for SSN at 1.800.772.1213

or look here: www.socialsecurity.gov

Good luck.
