all free and clear...i remember breaking out in hives from all tempa cheer when i was 8 yo and so i have to be very careful what i use...very sensitive skin...wouldn't mind finding something more green...but i really don't want to end up with the hives again!

as for fabric softener, i use ultra downy pure essentials chamomile and lemon verbina scent...smells great! and my OH misses his laundry smelling like that!

right now I am using Roma.. it says it is biodegradable...

I have to use unscented dryer sheets because I sneeze a lot when I don't...

I use Arm and Hammer for detergent. My skin is sensitive to Tide or All, so this works best for me. Snuggle for fabric softner.

I hate doing laundry and I can't even imagine spending an entire day doing the laundry. I usually just toss in a load during the weeknights while I'm watching the tube. It breaks it up that way and my laundry never piles up. Right now I think I'm using Tide plus Febreeze, it's ok. I actually toss in some beige with the whites and I do add bleach but it has never affected the coloring.

VJ Hours - I am available M-F from 10am - 5pm PST. I will occasionaly put in some OT for a fairly good poo slinging thread or a donut.

Tide for sure, but I also usually throw in a scoop of that OxyClean powder. Its a great stain remover and general freshener, and these days with an infant AND an adolescent boy in the house I need all the laundry boosts I can get... !

I don't have an adolescent boy in the house, but I have a man that acts like one. So I think I'll be trying the Tide bleach alternative for my whites.

I use Tide Pure Essentials. It has baking soda to keep your whites white. Don't buy anything that has colour in the liquid (usually blue) because that colour gets absorbed by the fabric and eventually turns your whites a grey colour.

I was part of a target group that tested that particular line of Tide at home and filled out a survey afterwards --- I found it didn't do well in taking out stains. Smelled great though! :)

Hey Cassie,

I was one of the target group that home-tested that particular line of Tide as well! I was in an initial test group, and then they had me do a second trial test series. What I really liked is that they provided me with enough free detergent to last well beyond the trial periods - and you are right, it smelled absolutely wonderful:-).

I find I prefer to use the pure essentials version now, though. I use oxiclean stain remover as a pre-wash treatment and I add a bleach for colours to the wash generally as well.

If your washer requires high efficiency detergent. Use it. The regular stuff can damage your washer.

We currently use an "overpriced and overrated" Asko washer/dryer set. Although seemingly efficient, the unit recommends "high performance" detergent. To us that means, whatever is on sale, used sparingly in these machines. Our clothes always turn out good, so all other manufacturer detergent recommendations are BS. However, energy use is in serious question here. When clothes are placed in the dryer, it takes 1.5 -3 hours to dry one load!

We believe these Asko units are "burying" our electric bill and look forward to American style "top loaders" where anything goes. Proven performance, over and over again.

I use Purex Free & Clear. I definitely think this one is the best after trying just about everything else. I also like Shout for persistent stains, especially in whites.

I know -- they sent me two bottles of the stuff -- hubby dearest was amazed to see that me doing the online surveys actually paid off! Between that and the bags of free dog food I have gotten it's been worth it. ;)

Maybe I'll get back into using it again ( it really did smell fantastic) with oxyclean.
