I was looking for a good laundry detergent for white clothes. The problem is, I never do a load of only whites, usually also some light grey, beige, light khaki, anyway, I'm afraid of buying anything with bleach because of that.

So share your favorite laundry detergent.

ERA for me. It is inexpensive here, cleans well, and has a subtle fresh smell. "Tide With Bleach Alternative" has the best consumer ratings for a traditional detergent.

I'm all for GAIN, the one that smells like apples. And white clothes really need to be washed separately because putting other colors in there (especially gray) will make them off-whtie. Just set your washer to the small cycle and then use a little bleach, you'll see the difference in a few weeks.

bleh, the thing is I do all my laundry on Saturdays. And it's usually 1 huge load of darks, 1 huge load of whites (or anything similar), 1 load of jeans (because my husband don't wear jeans twice, he has to wash them after 1 time he wears), 1 load of whites that requires gentle cycle, 1 load of darks that requires gentle cycle. Both of them that requires gentle cycle I don't use the dryer, I hang them. So that makes at least 3 loads in the dryer. Every other weekend I do a huge load of towels and cleaning cloths and stuff like that.

It really takes lots of time to do all that, so washing another load of whites only whites and gentle cycle only whites I'll need the entire day doing laundry. And that's not an option. I don't want to spend the entire day doing laundry, at least not that kinda laundry

Yes, just a little bleach. If you use too much, your cloths start falling apart. And we always try to let the cloths dry outside on the clothsline if possible. The dryer can destroy cloths over time also. Plus its free using the solar dryer.

I use this one for darks. It has an amazing smell, but it's kinda expensive:

2xUltra Tide with Febreeze. Specially designed for energy efficient front loaders - you use such a small amount it's incredible.

That stuff is terrible for the enviroment Mags. Im gonna start putting gravel in the washer. :P

I might try that. I was wondering if buying a energy efficient front loaders ' detergent would be ok since our laundry machine is top loader.
