does anyone know for sure if it's one year from the exp date of the NOA or the Green Card ???..When I read the NOA it looks like it's the NOA date... :wacko:

NOA extends your green card for 1 year.

Hi Missmariemc,

You probably should just get it as soon as possible, so you don't have to worry about it anymore, and instead focus on planning before and having fun on your vacation/trip.

Yeah, I don't like going to the "local office" either, as well, "it's not local" for me (It's about 2-3 hours drive away)! And no, I don't like driving in the city (any city at all) either, as the traffic conditions can get pretty chaotic. Is it the same way for you too, that your "local office" is not local, and that it is in a city that you don't like going to?

Good luck in getting your I-551 stamp, and have fun on your vacation too!

Absolutely,
I had no intentions of leaving the country without either a stamp or the actual card. The question was whether or not I should continue waiting and hoping on the approval or just go get the stamp asap.

In reality, I guess I should be able to wait until November 19th which would be 3 days before my trip to go in and get a stamp, on the other hand, I could just go and get it today/tommorrow......

I had no intentions of leaving the country without either a stamp or the actual card. The question was whether or not I should continue waiting and hoping on the approval or just go get the stamp asap.

Don't wait 3 days before your trip to make an appoinment for the stamp. Sometimes there are no appoinments available for right away, so the sooner the better to make that appoinment.

Lol...Why don't they make these NOA letters clearer, so that we all don't get confused like this date-wise? They should definitely put a line in there that says..."One year from the exp of the Green Card"

I really don't know how to put it...my case is as follows:

Im in Atlanta, GA.

I originally filed joint with my husband on Dec12,2007.

Got NOA1 with date of Dec21,2007 (even the case status states that they received the case on Jan16,2008) from TSC.

Received NOA2 date Jan28,2008 to do biometrics on Feb21,2008.

Got divorce final on July1,2008.

Re-file with waiver on July1,2008. (yes I had everything set and ready!)

Got NOA1 with date of July3,2008

Got NOA2 with date of July17,2008 to do biometrics on Aug2,2008.

I'm getting a little concerned as there have been two December approvals for VSC direct filers, but no December approvals for any of us transferred from TSC. I hope that's just a coincidence because I'd hate to see delays for us that were transferred.

For a while it seemed that the VSC had put the direct filers on the back burner, and processed people from TSC. It's funny they didn't send applications to the CSC, where the approvals are much quicker. Plus you would think California is closer to Texas. Go figure all we can do is wait. :unsure:

Thanks Ant (and Ree) for the answer. The letter is vague and the fact that it expires mid trip is nerve wracking. Of course there is hope that Richard's Green Card will arrive in time for the trip ...but by the way they are skipping around, who knows (????)

I'm happy for those approved but do wish they would do these in the order recieved....it's been a long wait (for all of us).

TSC was sending to CSC in the summer, but around December they started sending all lifting conditions applications to VSC.

Also, TSC transferred applications that had already been pending for almost a year.

Still no NOA1. As of Monday next week, we are outside the 30 day window to have received our notice so we can make an appointment and go in to get his stamp.
